I bet they will do a demonstration of the job system they have planned and will announce the jobs.

I'm sorry, does it hurt that much?
I seriously doubt there is any kind of proper expansion (new retail box) coming out anytime soon (within a year and a half). Sorry. In fact, IF there was an announcement about an expansion I would be severely hurt by Square-Enix's lack of judgement. Mainly because:
1) We are not even finished with the current %$#@ing story-line (Yes, usually one story finishes and a new story is introduced via expansion, in case you are unfamiliar with how MMOs typically work)
2) I would hope the Grand Company would come to a close as well (Since yes, while story-line Alpha (Main Quests) kind of coexists with Story-line Beta (Grand Company) they are two different stories, and as one is with the Adventurer's Guild/Echo people and the other is a War time Grand Company)
To start another story-line is as far fetched and ridiculous as your counter-argument good sir.
My counterargument to you saying that they need 2 years to register a copyright before they can launch an expansion. lolI'm sorry, does it hurt that much?

ffxi started in na with 2 stories, we had all the city missions and we had zilart on top of that too. the real reality check is we need content and there is none. said this earlier in the thread but tera launched way to early and with no content too, and they aren't launching till next srping now cause they dont' want to launch na without an expansion with more content. ...key words more content. they can't pull a wotg right from the get go, that expansion had us waiting for content, waiting for sets of story missions, had us just waiting. mmo can't start off like that when they start charging, it needs as much stuff as is expected for a full blown launch. really if content is that slow i'd say run for the hills cause it's already the end then.I'm sorry, does it hurt that much?

Weeble, it was released like so because those stories were finished (yes killing the dark lord gave a sense of completion) so having a new story made sense. The final ranks were created to bring people back to their own nations and learn of the lore of each said nation, and in turn was kind of a completely new story all together from ranks 1-5. (A little tid bit as well that the original plan was to get to rank 15 but they deemed the ranks concluded nicely and declined from increasing it. Don't believe me check the XI dats the rank up animations for 11-15 are there)
XIV's "conclusion" to the main story quests is a little different (I won't spoil it, but it is left on a cliffhanger you could say since it doesn't resolve). So to say that XI was the same as XIV is now is a little stretched, XI at least had a complete story upon release whereas XIV does not.
I am impressed with the level of message discipline SE has made. A good balance of:
How much feedback they accept and share
The art of "Under-promise, over-deliver"
Keep it up devs. We're rooting for you!
I'm off-shooting from the rest of the thread right now, I know, but my main inquiry is this:
I read somewhere that there's going to be a PS3 and a PSV (Vita) port of XI, and if that does indeed come to fruition can we expect the same with XIV? By the Twelve, I hope so. It'd be much easier to handle on a portable compared to my lackluster laptop which, unfortunately, gives way within an hour or so of game time. Ha ha ha.
"Due to the massive changes to Battle Mechanics, Class Abilities, Gear Stats, Gear Designs, New Genders, New Character Creation Options, New Base Stats for Races, the abolition of Player Based Attribute Point Alottment and the complete redesign of the Lands of Eorzea...we have decided to "Reboot" all servers and wipe all previously created characters."
"We hope you understand and enjoy starting over in the New & Improved FFXIV."
Papa was a rolling stone...wherever he laid his barbut was home.
I hope its Ishgard.
