I can't say if the program could be better, but I feel the need to say it is really helpful.

As a (returning without ever having subscribed or played much at opening) week old player, the mentors have been wonderful on my server. In that time I only saw one who shocked me, calling a sprout a scrub for not wanting to craft - no explanations why, just the words. I have not seen that mentor say anything else since.

Ultimately, the program seems to be good as it stands. From where i sit, as a sprout with stars in my eyes and everything fresh and exciting, the mentors as a whole seem good, helpful, friendly. As a new player, I am not sure i could easily cope with the complexity of some things without their assistance.

Mind you, now I have an awesome FC, so the mentors are less needed, but it's nice to know they are there and it's nice to have my sprout too, 'L' plates so the experienced people who get me tanking on roulette are warned XD

Resigning as a Mentor =/= toggling the Mentor status off. You do not need to go to the Smith to toggle the Mentor status off.

Go to Party -> Party members -> Right click yourself (or whatever they do on ps3\4) -> Edit search info -> Change status.

Yeah, it a bit convoluted, but no need to go to npc and resign yourself. Btw is 30 days penalty is still there?

P.S. How to hide the image in expandable tag?

The white knighting from the people in this thread hurts so much; that it's essentially cringe worthy.

This is why I don't ever want to be a mentor. All of this "Your selfish", "Your just jealous", talk going back and forth talk is so childish, that it makes everyone seem like a bunch of immature first graders acting out to get attention. (Mentors and non-mentors alike!).

This entire thread is basically borderline troll bait.

All the Mentor system will amount to is Self Entitlement pissing contest. Childish.

The mentor system is useful and helpful, it's only flaw was this wanna be civil war it created just by existing. People who were jerks before it started are still jerks and people who were friendly are still friendly. The mentor system let's people new to the game experience both while giving them and the mentors access to a unique chat system and mentors an extra dungeon option. It is nothing more or less than that. This entire thread is a series of proofs that when looking at a white cloth the first thing the eyes lock onto is the one smudge of dirt that stands out and calling the entire cloth a waste.

I love these threads. The whole mentor system is a hot mess. Making up a character status to "help people" is too ambiguous and therefore lots of people with less than kind intentions want to be one. After all, how best to hide the fact that people call you bad or unkind by flaunting a mentor badge ("This badge proves them wrong! THEY WERE ALL WRONG I TELL YOU!"). The whole wolf in sheep's clothing, amirite?

Now we have someone saying the mentor system is a hot mess, not because of merits of the system itself but merely because they can't be one? Oh, I guess they are the only unworthy one. They are like a baby wolf that couldn't even put on the sheep's clothing properly. Someday baby wolf, you will get there! Many other wolves in sheep's clothing for you to play with soon. Sadly, not many for you to prey on though when you get there. The other wolves ate them already.

That's awfully demonizing. This isn't world of Warcraft trade chat. The vast majority are willing to help, especially as there are rules against trolling that are worked to be upheld by both the community and the game management. It's the oddballs that cause the problems. As for the mentor roulette, well the bad performers are bad, no denying, but once again it's the minority that gain attention and ruin the experience for others. Though I do agree, the thread starter definitely has a skewed agenda.

I like the mentor system because it lets me know who the douchebags are. I haven't met a nice person yet with a crown next to their name. Thank you, SE.

You must not be looking very hard. It's the trouble makers that stand out, while the actual helpful players wait and watch for opportunities to help and are therefore overlooked.
