But, this sort of progression is how it is with any given MMO. You spend time to get gear, you typically get 2-3 options for each slot, and it gets outdated with the next patch cycle (which is also the consequence of having such a fast update schedule, though it is somewhat alleviated by having new raid tier every 2 patches). The exception is that some game offered one piece of equipment that was part of a legendary questline, which was, without question, BiS for that item slot at every patch release. It's accessible to all players equally since you can get it through a LFR difficulty (albeit at a slower rate than those who raid), and the game in general was balanced around their secondary effects.

If we wanted relic weapons to be something like that, then we'd have to accept that they're also going to be the BiS without question for each tier. If they don't want that and end up giving their secondary effects to all equipment types (alexander, tomestones), then we're just rounding back to the problem of it not being unique or otherwise fitting for a questline/grind like this.

Players actually riding their ships and having multiple party members control different aspects of the ships has been changed into a cutscene.

My money is on 90 percent of the next expansion's budget being poured into the leveling experience of the new level cap. People will feel like SE outdid themselves this time until some players who reached the level cap early gets to see what's in store and then start arguing with people who are taking their time to get there. The latter will outnumber the former and they will spread the good word everywhere else. When questioned why the character progression system (stats, gear, etc) are still basically the same, SE will reply with "please think of the new players" and

    "Vacation."

I'm not gonna shoot them down for taking a vacation after pushing an expansion release. BUT, the release of heavensward in general was a very weak start that it really did not set a good foundation to build upon (let alone step away from the game for so long). Doubly so for 3.1 since it adds that build up time for a new content release, and we got almost jack shite to show for it. There was so many things that was previewed then undersold that it actually ended up being frustrating for me. MCH, diadem, crafting specialists, and favors just to name a few.

I am extremely tired of the same old same old with this game. I'd unsub myself, but someone is paying for my sub lol.

Diadem and hunts were going in a positive direction...but just stuff is missing. Why is SE so against force pops and farming like that? What is the massive hard on for everything instanced and going obsolete so fast..and this weekly stuff? Personally I do not do any of it..it does not make me want to play more, if anything it makes me want to play less.

Oh well, gives me more time to work on my costumes and other hobbies ^^

I just hate gated content period. It's just padding out content over several weeks. Can't even trade in VA gear for GC seals. Just pathetic.

It's very possible to do this in XIV. But it's harder. An example, the shell I ran in XI specialized in helping new players. And we found new members all the time mostly by people shouting for help, or encountering someone staggering around having clear problems. We'd talk to them, and often help them, and they'd join us. It was very common. A weekly thing.

In XIV it happens rarely. I have seen few new people shouting for help. We see sprouts and offer help and often don't get replies. It's much harder to make that first connection with other players. Do a DF for the Aery and you might end up with 3 folks from other servers you'll never see again. Even if you get along great and enjoy each others humor/style (if any one even talks!) you may never meet again.

That is why I feel there needs to be more reasons to interact with ones server mates. Ways to connect to them naturally. I feel its a deep aspect to fix. No ideas how to be honest.

There has to be a way to fix this gear problem, everything gets outdated to fast, an the 450 cap is getting old.
you can work hard today for something an tomorrow is 100x more easy to optain an a new set is lock by 450 cap a week again,is like an endless cycle since 2013, is just getting bored of repeating the same rute over an over.
I love this game but I cant cover the sun with one finger..its been 3yrs almost..

Well I'm in the same boat with mostly of you guys...
I'm also coming from FFXI glorious days and even though I have to admit I hated the leveling system on that game (LFG for 1hr+ wasn't cool) and begging for a teleport even overpaying for it...
I really miss the end game excitment of farming Sky, Sea and poping NM's...
    I miss doing Dynamis stuff...
I miss the feeling of explore, danger (who that hadn't play FFXI won't remind the excitment of traveling 1st time from Windurst, San'doria or Bastok to Jeuno?)
Hell I even miss a main city feeling like Jeuno...
I'm not quitting right away but I might end doing that if SE/Yoshi-P continues with this boring non sense system on throwing lames patches just to keep subscriptions active doing same stuff over and over again...

Well what do you want them to do, no more patches so your gear lasts longer? should gear be outdated in 4 weeks or 8 weeks? even if they change the layout it will STILL feel the same only by giving or taking a few weeks nothing changes.

It is a gear treadmill game, just like any other mmo, gear gets made, gear gets used, gear gets useless, welcome to online gaming.

Instead of tomes how about they change the icon to a rabbit? since you don't like tomes.

There is nothing they can do to change how a gear treadmill mmo works, unless they take the gear out. You have like 4 different ways to gear up. Maybe some of you should take game design school so you can come up with a solution that is considered constructive criticism rather than " me no like, me unsub if no change".

I never did get around to updating first post with suggestions. My computer is still borked. Waiting on some ordered parts to put a new one together. Id rather not update first post on my phone, take forever.

My only real problem with "gated content" is that we are paying to play this game. A weekly tome cap is a very... lucrative... way of time gating. Paying and being completely gated on content due to a cap dont sit right with me. Its one thing to halt progression, its another to slow it down. There has to be a way to extend content that doesnt involve caps. I could accept weekly caps with a free to play model because content is slowed and progression should be too. I get that tomes are for people who cant play often though. But there is no middle ground for people who arent really into savage and are tired of tomes. I miss social content, fc organized content, and big/rare game hunting content with friends.
It all boils down to creativity, the easiest option is to throw another tome into the game and cap it. It requires hardly any dev work... i mean camon.
I hope they try new things after 4.0... i really do.

To be fair, XI's way of doing it didn't take much creativity either.

You have creative zones, sure, but you gathered currency, camped an NM for a low drop, or crafted. There was some quested gear, but for the majority, it was pray for RNG to bless you after gathering tokens to fight something or pray for RNG that you will get that claim.

Ah I see, that makes sense.

For me, I recently re-subbed to wow. I never really played it a lot and am starting from scratch and hoping to get it through the game and geared/ready for Legion when it launches. The only reason I have not unsubbed FFXIV to coincide with this is because of the friends (primarily my static) I have made in-game.
