Yes. You can summon an eikon? Check.
Can they do their ultimate attack? It's there, press Enkindle.
Only thing different about them is that these summons do not do their ultimate move right after summoning, and not disappearing right after. Other games have broke this rule before like FFX, FFXI, FFXII and FFXIII.

I am for all and any class really being added, more variety and honestly found myself bored with all the classes at the time. However I do admit I don't see Blue Mage being done the way most people are wanting. Its going to be very limited in the skills we learn unless they actually allow us to learn more and just swap skills in and out but I see that being a bit out of the question.

I think they mean in terms of scale and spectacle. Final Fantasy summon magic was always extremely flashy and devastating, which is partially why a lot of people are upset with how the Summoner class in FF14 is designed since it's not really the same thing.

Well yeah that's a pretty disappointing part about it but something like cutscenes of eikons performing their ultimate move wouldn't work here, and I assume SE avoided with making it so flashy for FFXIV's SMN is for better player vision, being the reason why the Egis are rather tiny and Enkindle isn't as flashy.

We really can't expect something that worked on a single-player game to also work on a MMO, so changes are to be made.

And that's exactly my point. At the end of the day we're not gonna get a proper blue mage, we're just gonna get a class name and an artifact outfit and that's it. The actual class won't be there just like it happens with summoner. So those who really really want blue mage in will be really really disappointed by how it plays out.

...Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

RIP Bad Breath and Lvl 5 Death. Or they'd just make Blue Mage into some new class and betray it's namesake. Like Dark Knight, Summoner and what have you. Pffft.

So do you really want it? If you don't mind more classes to play as then great. But if you come in expecting Blue Mage from previous incarnations of the FF franchise then you'll be so disappointed.
    I feel you here.

Personally, I want a Blu mage because I want more magic users and there is not a lot left to choose from in the FF realm

I don't know a lot about Blu Mage, so this suggestion may not make sense for it, but how about having it use enemies as it's resource. It needs to capture 'spell points' (for lack of a better term) from an enemy which it can then spend on it's magic powers. You could then build up spell points doing very little damage so that you can high burst at some point, or cycle for a more sustained damage. This would keep with it's theme of capturing spells from enemies, but rather it's just capturing the ability to use its spells?

While on topic, why do people want Samurai? *shrug*

There's really no "proper". Each job has seen changes in each FF game. For example, Black Mage has only used three elements in FFI (Which is Fire, Ice and Lightning) but this changed over time with new spells and new elements to use. Summoner used to have a smaller selection of eikons and they aid you in battle for only a few seconds, it changed in more current FF games with more summons and eikons actually staying around for more than a minute.

But it still follows the gimmick, or what makes that job. Black Mage's gimmick of pretty much being able to cast powerful and destructive magic didn't really go away, same with Summoner being able to evoke eikons to aid in battle. If the future FFXIV Blue Mage follows the gimmick of being able to learn and use monster abilities then it's a Blue Mage and I think that's really not hard for them to achieve but it needs thorough thinking.

EDIT: The job I believe they actually failed on being true to the gimmick is only Dark Knight. Well, partially since its other mechanic being Soul eater/Darkness isn't there. Here's hoping whatever new thing SE introduces for jobs in 4.0 would bring that.

Summoner stopped being flashy circa ff10, which is also when summons started sticking around for more than five seconds. Other than that, I don't understand the complaints about smn not being true to its namesake when it plays largely identical to every version of summoner I've come across?

Again, it's the nostalgia kicking in. Pretty much everything FF10 and earlier always had summons being quite flashy that made you go "Wow, that looked painful" when said summon unleashes their final attack (FF12's Espers as well). Dark Knight is the same situation where people remember it for what it was back in the day and are upset that it's not the exact same thing for FF14. Blue Mage is just going to fall under the same trap no matter how it is sliced.
