I thought FFXIV was beautiful before.... (video) (Classified 980 TI)

So, as a long time gamer and FFXIVer I dont post much, but I thought this was at least worth sharing.

Ive always held the opinion that really, anything above a Nvidia 960 was just unnecessary. I believe the exact quote I told a friend was that without 4k any card over just for epeen's sake... well, I think I was wrong.

I splurged on a new monitor, Dell UltraSharp 34" WQHD Curved, and was close enough to 4k that I thought it might be a good time to try a more elite card. Bumped from a 960 to a new EVGA Classified 980 TI 6GB and... well, I was wrong. Holy hell it looks different.

I think the purchase was worth it, and maybe someone out there has been contemplating a new card. Heres a look at 3440x1440 @ Ultra @ 60FPS.

(Set it to 2160p60 for full effect, imo)

Yeah, I have a 28" 4K UHD and I drive it off of 2x ASUS OC GTX970s in SLI (ASUS GeForce GTX 970 STRIX-GTX970-) and it runs just as beautifully as this. Truly wonderful to behold. Mine runs at max graphics topping out at about 42FPS in even in heavy combat situations. Did you happen to check what framerates you were getting out of this?

As an aside, are you running it in DX9 or DX11? I find I have to run mine in DX9 because if I try running it in DX11 sometimes it will lock up on loading screens.

720p60 is a lot for a GT 640. But man does it run like butter in FFXIV.

Just upgraded from a Radeon HD 7950 to a GTX 960, installed it this morning before work. Ran Dragon Age Inquisition at max very nicely. Looking forward to trying out FFXIV tonight and this weekend.

Maybe one day I'll get into the whole 4k thing but for now I gotta watch my budget.

For framerates it was locked at 60 steady, I was impressed

Ive been running DX11 and didnt notice any issues with lockups yet, but will have to keep that in mind.

Yeah, the pricing points can be the killer. Hopefully as they get more popular the prices will even out, like old 1080p

For me, looking forwards to The Division on high, havent tried but cant wait!

I've been running 970 SLI and the game runs about the same on 4k but a powerful single card solution is always better imo. I'll wait for the next TI, whenever that may happen.
