To be fair ...
3.2 SPOILER
The scene with the hot drink in Dragonhead , put a smile on my face , i enjoyed it because it feels like Alphinaud really cares about the YOU , he is the loyal friend that care about you as person, not because of WHO YOU ARE (warrior of light) , because of HOW YOU ARE...he is a little annoying? sometimes , but hey we all have friends like him.
Let Alphinaud grown up a bit , im sure he will be a great character like his Grandpa.

I'm not a huge fan of the two Leveilleur sisters to be honest.
You give out crystal brave uniforms because the braves look up to the warrior of light, it was meant to inspire the new recruits and create a sense of unity among the people you helped recruit. Besides its not like you had anything better to do since there were no continent threatening disasters to prevent at the time.
Alphinaud was a know it all in the beginning, but how often is he actually wrong early on? He is very intelligent for his age, not to mention sheltered and only 16 years old, people can call him naive but again 16 years old sheltered people usually are. The moment that it becomes apparent that he made a mistake he changed, came down off his high horse and immediately set about growing as a person, throughout heavensward both in cutscenes and just chatting with characters between them it's obvious how hard he is trying to do better.
As for Minfilia she is not a fighter, she is a paper pusher, a leader. Without her we would have no direction. Look at what happened when we had to seek sanctuary the first time after the Garleans made things personal, the warrior of light had no idea what to do as a dialog choice "the wild rose is dead father and i know not what to do.." if Alphinaud had not shown up and given us a new direction who knows how long we would have sat around brooding.
Minfilia is the reason we have retainers, and can use materia. the reason we got involved with the primals, got an airship pass, a grand company invitation, she is the reason we are able to rub shoulders with high society outside of the city we start in, she handles all of the behind the scenes things that are too annoying for her warrior of light to have to put up with and finds us and everyone else missions.
To put it simply were it not for Minfilia the warrior of light would not be anything more than an above average adventurer, we would get famous maybe but never nearly to the extent that scion involvement allowed us to and not nearly so quickly.
I actually like both characters a great deal, its just a matter of perspective.

So obviously it's all a trap and the world is factually coming to an end..
While the Black Mage and Dark Knight in me would happily smite those of little use to me the headcanon I have and the game's linearity clearly shows...
I mean even in DRK questline we have a NPC voicing our inner thoughts with fetching people's things and felling their foes and for what?

My main problem with both of them is the way they speak, well actually its the way the entire world speaks as well. Alph sounds like a spoilt child, plus he is always so pretentious and know-it-all. He conducts the diplomacy with Ishgarde and I just get to sit there, watch and smile like an idiot.
Personally, I do not see why Square Enix had to bother with the whole "old english" way of talking, with "thee's and thous and most powerful ones etc" because NO other Final Fantasy game has had that ridiculous style of language. Plus, the game is Japanese which means that sometimes, the translation or use of Old English in this game is just totally wrong. (I'm English so I would know as I studied English Literature and Shakespear and some of the language in this game is downright hilarious mis-use.)
They don't need to speak like they are from the middle ages! It makes it difficult to understand and takes me completely out of the story.
A number of characters in FFIX and FFXI have old english speaking patterns. It sounds as though a lot of your troubles are based around the voice acting decisions, have you tried the alternate voice overs? Some of them are quite helpful (the memorial scene is soooo much better in japanese, except for Merlwyb, i love her 2.0 english voice, the background character chatter is so much more bearable even without jems like arrr where's me cutlass)

They probably do it for the same reason that they use Imperial measurements when most of the world (in real life that is) uses the Metric system. It's to set the realm apart from the real world that we're acquainted with. To make it a little more fantastical. While I find the speech to be a little stilted at times, it could definitely be worse. My immersion would've been thrown out the window if Alphinaud had shown up with those cups of hot chocolate and said, "Yo, whassup dude? How you doin?"Personally, I do not see why Square Enix had to bother with the whole "old english" way of talking, with "thee's and thous and most powerful ones etc" because NO other Final Fantasy game has had that ridiculous style of language. I am not suggesting that at all. I just think that the "old world" way of speaking is unnecessary because no other Final Fantasy game has this, not even Final Fantasy IX and that was set in the same sort of technological age. Just seems a little silly to me.They probably do it for the same reason that they use Imperial measurements when most of the world uses Metric.
