    Hum...
    Not so crazy concept
I kind of like it !

I admit Cidel there a few things i love about it.
Giving him the piety stat would be an idea (and that way all heal will have the mind bonus)
In the other side i'm not so convinced about the triple aspect of piety depending of the rôle...

    I would see more
A triple stance that would change or add your piety to the rôle stat

Same for the spell, each one of them change depending of your stance.

    ...

And I love the idea about the siblings npc !
(Plus the sitting one is adorable Cute)

They do remind me of the persona siblings XD

no it makes no sense, I have no idea what they did in FF XI but that game had so many really stupid things like dark knights with scythes.

Great write up! I like the concept. My only problem is that you don't have Goblin Punch listed, and I couldn't deal with a Bluemage that couldn't Goblin Punch ;D

I'd like to point out The scythe was crazy effing DPS for a drk in FFXI when they played solo or as a dps role in group. Nothing stupid about that.

I'd gladly switch to a Scythe than a greatsword myself.

I actually second this. As awesome as Greatswords are, scythes would have just been wicked.

BLU has a versatile enough history that it could be DPS, tank, or even healer. Folks are dreaming, though, if they think SE's going to bend over backwards to make it fill more than one role, or any role outside of the ironclad trinity. FFXIV is not an ambitious game, like FFXI was. It's not breaking any new ground in MMOs - and the few areas where it DID try to break new ground (classes evolving into jobs, multiple jobs from the base class, multiple weapon types used by a single job) are being quietly and deliberately left behind and swept under the rug.

Like it or not, FFXIV is going to color within the lines and not take any risks. They can't afford to, after the debacle that was the original release.

That doesn't mean that Blue Mage can't be an enjoyable job. There's plenty of room for it to be fun, even while remaining strictly married to one of the three roles. The only folks who think otherwise are those who just can't let go of some version of Blue Mage that they favor from another Final Fantasy.

Blue Mage is a mage Job that (should) learn spells by taking them to the face... It should be tanky as a result... Whether it actively learns them, or just gets them through a quest (which can still simulate taking moves to the face to learn them), it's lore should still be "A mage that takes enemy skills to the face and lives to throw them back", that's Tank material. Or would we prefer another mage that goes out and defeats stuff to learn new skills? Because that's how Summoner works with its (might as well not exist) Egi...
Because there's no reason for it to be tanky if they are going to learn skills from class quests, the only reason they would need to be tanky would be, as I stated, if they were going to learn a move from every fight they go to. Which...isn't going to happen, as I also said.

Blue mages have always had mostly damage skills, with just a few supporty/healing/buff abilities on the side. DPS just makes the most sense, you don't need to be a full-blown tank to take a few hits...

Too bad in the current meta for FFXI, melee dps is not useful.

BLU does quite well, as does PLD/BLU, however.
