I don't know, personally I like not having to rely on melds and crafting to gather efficiently (except for accessories but that'll never change we all know that).

Now that I have my gearing out of the way, I'm not even sure what to do with my red scrips. I suppose I could gather favors for others. Hm.

That is generally the best use of them, yeah. For the same amount of red scrips as the gatherer main hand you could get every crafting body piece made almost, it's a bit ridiculous (though that does require other materials as well).

Well I mean to be fair it's the ONLY use for them I have now. I have all the red scrip gathering gear now. Hope the patch brings something else to do with them.

Though, I had my GSM chest made. It was hard, and expensive...it would've been expensive even if I had sacrificed some of my gathering scrips. Those "other materials" are...a bit steep.

As I already said: you don't immediately need the gear to gather the mats. So Equip your crafters first. Once you have done that, there is more than enough time to "future proof" you gatherers.

Though lets be honest here: SE WILL design it in a way that you WILL grind gear again in 3.2 or 3.3, depending on when they release the "next tier" of items. So the term "future proof" is on shaky ground at best.

Agreed. I HATE overmelds past slot 1 @ 35% (even that can be annoying). Such a moronic and frustrating design. I just hate to see all my time and effort wasted because RNG says "F*** YOU PLAYER!"

Considering it takes 80 Rowena's Tokens (Red Gatherer's Scrips), which takes 4000 Red Gatherer's Scrips, which takes 9 weeks (you'll have an extra 50 scrips) for one gathering class, I can understand his frustration on having to put it off. Especially if he wants to do that for all three gatherers with no option to get around the gating.

I could understand his frustration if the gear was needed in order to collect stuff and be productive, absolutely.
But it isn't.
So it's basically just some pretty set he wants to have for kinks and stuff (or completionist OCD) so... not really a problem if it takes a few weeks.

I'd love to have all the 180 gear for all my crafters too... but I know that it isn't a realistic goal.

With the blue and red gathering scrip gear, SE made gatherers relatively independent of crafters. You can progress to gathering from every node in the game using only vendor gear, blue scrip gear, and red scrip gear for your left side and offhand.

You need crafted jewelry to get a decent amount of GP of course.

i170 will be better if you meld it with TV materia. I'd hardly call that "costing less resources", given the horrible RNG involved. Oo

I agree that "no option" is awkward, esp considering that with a few gentle melds in your chimaera gear, you don't even need the blue stuff past the main hand.

And yes: Favors are a mess I certainly won't touch. At least not until red scripts become uncapped.
