Its not surprising that most people rather be a cute feminine female over a giant muscular one. Thats a universal social norm among most women and in men's preferences. Im among the few that prefer the latter.

Roe aren't that darn muscle bound. They're fit, lean, looks like they're actually out there daily fighting, lifting things, running and killing stuff. For any that think they're all muscle and nothing else, you must have a small idea of a female body. Not that there's anything wrong with cat girls and elves, I just feel like there are far too few of us roe.
I would blame the limited customization options and lack of diversity between the tribes. If there was an option to play fem roes of female Au Ra size and with reduced body mass, players would play them more. The same would go for elezen. Where there option to make them more similar to elves, the population would rapidly increase.
Personally I prefer faster and agile characters, so I play male cat on Ragnarok and fem cat on Balmung. The fact that characters have to move at the same speed no matter the size is one of the major turn offs for me - smaller ones seem to move faster.
I play FemRoe due to the low population count. Makes me feel unique among all the Au Ra and Miqote. And because the Male Au Ra run is dumb. I would call it a girly skip even.Roe aren't that darn muscle bound. They're fit, lean, looks like they're actually out there daily fighting, lifting things, running and killing stuff. BOT: I've never found femroe particularly beautiful, even the ones that some claim are gorgeous. IMO they look way too plain and only slightly less lanky than Elezen. Course, I prefer playing characters that fall under the Little Bit Beastly trope myself, which probably contributed to how I couldn't stand playing a Roe.
I own a FemRoe linkshell on Hyperion. It's a FemRoe invite shell (basically I only invite femroes into the shell no other race) You can change race once inside the shell however, I don't kick people from it. The linkshell has almost 128 members (sitting at 126 atm). Myself I bounce between FemRoe and Au Ra, I mainly switch race just to show the shell members that I wont kick them if they do decide to change race later on.

Roegadyn is a very unique race and it is very fun coming up with nice glamours. Almost every Roegadyn player I meet are very nice and have warm hearts. I sadly noticed that due to not being popular with the players the Race tends to be ignored in a few things. FemRoe(and Female Highlander) suffer from a few graphic and clipping issues mainly with skirts and hairstyles. These bugs do get fixed overtime but a lot of them are still around.

How I see the ladies of Eorzea:
Midlander Hyur
Pretty and sweet, but too generic. How about the taller version?
Highlander Hyur
Athletic but a bit thin. The girly motions don't match the looks. Lets see the demi-beast-races, maybe they are fiercer.
Au Ra
Uhh, I said fierce.
Miqo'te
Ok fine, I give up. The elves are always good looking, right?
Elezen
Oh god what is that?! Is there a version that doesn't look like a giraffe?
Lalafell
...Or like a baby?
Roegadyn
Sexy and sassy. Perfect!
