As a tank, why am I expected to heal?

Today I got kicked from a Fractal run because I wasn't throwing out pots at the BLM, I argued that the cooldown for pots makes it hard to effectively heal as a tank and keeping up with the WHM's DPS was making life harder.

That's not all, last week I got kicked from a Bismarck run because I didn't have Clemency on my DRK, I've never felt so ostracized since my WAR days when people only wanted PLD's. Now they've made PLD's the ultimate healer so I struggle to get parties on my DRK. I really don't want to re-roll.


Why is it like this? I signed up to play a tank, not a healer.

Who uses potions for healing? Who complains about people not using potions for anything at all in dungeons? Who kicks Drk for not having Pld's heal--that is much less effective in any tanking situation, due to interrupts, than Drk's self heals and isn't even cross-classable?

Is this supposed to be a satire/parody on the 'healers not wanting to DPS' threads?

Because that's the only thing I can think it MIGHT be, but I can't tell which side you're making fun of because it's all nonsense. Which makes for poor satire, so I doubt even that.

Fractal is such an simple dungeon that you shouldn't need to be using pots like that, speaking as a mere i181 DRK. Did anything go run in the run? I've never been kicked for not having Clemency and I wouldn't even consider it a must have for DRK. Unless someone can correct me on that.

To answer your question, I don't know. Unfortunately problems like this is why there is, and always will be, a shortage of tanks.

I have your story beat. Today I did Fractal as a SMN and my Titan-Egi got kicked for not having Provoke. Fortunately, my group forgave me for bringing along such a newb Egi (they even thanked me for keeping up heals so the WHM could dps). After the run, I did have a talk with Titan-Egi. I gave him a simple ultimatum: git gud or delete himself. I thought the matter was dealt with. However, Titan-Egi chose option #3 instead, which was to come on the forums and complain. You might have seen Titan-Egi's thread earlier. It was "Why am I expected to have Provoke?! I pay my sub so I can play how I want!"
