Um, just to clear up for anyone who still doesn't know supertanking just means to tank everything, I believe it's origins come from FF11 where tanking one mob at a time was the common strategy due to how damage mitigation worked in that game (/NIN shadow tanking) To supertank I'd want something with high defence and high HP like PLD/BLU or PLD/RDM. It was a strategy called out long before the fight started as it required a different sub job and gear.

That said I used the term in the forum the other day when refering to big pulls, old habits die hard I guess.

Oh, I'm pretty sure that wasn't you. If I'd seen that macro I would have understood more quickly. There was nothing like that at all, just a guy going "single heal me", and me going "O_o whut". And tbh, your example of "rudeness" at the end there really isn't all that rude. ^^ Thank you for the explanation though (and Aldora upthread, too). I did eventually figure out what he meant and started throwing him the requested heal in the following bosses, so it all ended up alright.

Expecting all tanks to be able to survive Faust and the adds in normal mode is elitist and wrong. In a PF for A1S? Yeah, expect that. DFing A1N? No.

It's neither elitist nor is it wrong. It's actually quite common and I'm sorry for you if your groups have given you experiences to the contrary.

I've been tanking a ton of Alex lately for my relic and almost every single group has done the Supertank method on Faust. Most times I or the other tank will volunteer to do it and we've never had a healer say no, don't.

The first time I was asked if I could Supertank Faust I hadn't done it on A1S yet. I said no, and the other tank and his healer taught me how, then said isn't that awesome?? Hell yeah it is!

This is how we learn new techniques, by sharing it with other groups, and I love that about this game. It's why I still DF as a dps and healer, because I'm constantly learning new tanking techniques from other players.

That said, is it for everyone, or for every group? No, and that's where your keyboard and even brief communication and consensus comes in.

First part I was answering a specific question (which was why bother having an OT grab adds). The POINT is to keep the squishy healers safe and allow them to do their job without interruption. It was't an answer to specifically reference Faust, but a general answer to all adds on any boss fight.

As for solo tanking TitanEx; I'm glad you and other's can do so. I unfortunately cannot as I am not fully eso geared. Even at ilvl 183 and knowing the fight pretty well, I still have difficulty. Likely a good part of this is due to the fact that I am a STR tank that doesn't have eso gear (so basically, my hp is is lower). So taking on more than titan himself is askin a bit much on my specific character.

Solo tanking has been a viable strategy for Titan EX since back at level 50, though. Even if you're running it synced, there should be no reason for you to be having problems with the incoming damage as you'd be synced to the maximum possible stats for level 50 (which is still vastly overgeared for that fight). If you're having issues tanking him, it's definitely not related to your gear. Either the DPS isn't pushing him fast enough so you're getting too many stacks, or the heals are lacking.

Had an interesting run of A4 NM this evening. I joined in progress as a WHM to see two other people, one of which left shortly after. At first I was thinking "damn time to try again" but then another person joined in and I felt like having some fun so I tap oppressor with aero lol. Boss begins to smash the hell out of us as the new guy loads in and he is stuck till we all die while he goes "wtf" haha. Then after a few more people come and go I try it again but this time I get sucked up the tube by my lonesome and get the most awesome idea. Since people can't leave during combat (and they pretty much died instantly after loading in anyway) I just sat at the top healing myself till the party was full again. Then died and went down and we all buffed up and kicked its butt in one of the smoothest runs I have ever experienced. Right when we started one guy left cause an S rank spawned but he was replaced pretty quick. I'm kinda glad people are so impatient sometimes cause otherwise I wouldn't have been able to do that lol. Was kinda funny when one guy said "I love you" when he realized what I was doing lol.

Never heard of it, asked my friend who played much more MMOs than me for years and he also has no idea...

If I was the other tank I'd be like 'haha yes, I'm a super main tank I'll do it' and wouldn't have tanked the adds either lol

Aery as well,there was this obnoxious DRG making fun of me for leading the group in the wrong direction.Got to the last boss and he ended up kissing the floor like a good ol classic LOLDRG.

Dear gods. I don't even know what that was.

Cetus - near wipe (at one point, 1.5 parties were down). Somehow got through it.

Sawtooth/Irminsul - near wipe. All the melee sure liked ignoring adds and standing in poisons.

Cuchulainn - If it could be stood in, everyone stood in it. Vomit, bile, pools, tentacles. Healer LB, and we still wiped. 5 stacks of bleed. Go back and try it again, pretty much a repeat. Shout out to the geniuses who were standing on platforms, to get the pools spawned on them. Third time's a charm.

Echidna - Apparently, when Echidna splits, she enrages if she's killed before at least one of the serpents? Plus, the serpents were too close. Thankfully, got her down the second time. And I have to do it again for either belt or boots.

If you're attacking the plant thing in melee, it poisons you from time to time. The plant/dog thing does that annoying mucus, though.

The adds are squishy as hell and shouldn't present a problem for anyone to kill in seconds.

Lol, I hate this boss. I always tell the alliance: Don't get puked on, don't get pooped on, don't camp platforms.
