This debate again, sheesh.

The fact is, the current healing meta sucks. And while some players like it, I can personally attest that its driving other players away. I'm one of them. I *loved* healing, and I otherwise kicked ass as a WHM, having mained a healing class of some kind since I played World of Warcraft. But latency issues made Cleric Stance a royal pain to use, much less to use effectively. It was too much stress, and I sadly dropped healing altogether to take up SMN. (Which I recently parsed 1150 on a dummy with, which is an amazing feeling for someone who at first thought she would be hopeless as a DPS).

The devs have stated repeatedly that healer DPS is not taken into account when tuning fights. But even they confessed that Alex Savage was tuned too tightly, resulting in many people saying 'Well, yeah, the devs lied.' Luckily, it seems like they're easing off on DPS checks in the future, with the confirmation that Midias will be easier. I'm going to wait and see, but my fondest hope is that it will make healers who just want to heal acceptable again. I keep chomping at the bit to get back on WHM, or even SCH, but the thought of stance dancing always sobers me.

You can argue 'You need to DPS to be a good healer' all you want. The fact is, the current meta is alienating players who otherwise want to heal. Considering how healers, alongside tanks, are an 'in-demand' role, I don't think that a good thing.
