The above reminds me of another healing horror story, except I wasn't the healer. XP
Was leveling my ACN to get Eye for an Eye to cross-class for my WHM, and was running Thousand Maws. The tank was making relatively large pulls, but nothing an attentive healer couldn't heal through (I would know because, you know... healer main). Would have been perfectly fine... except for the fact that the CNJ flipped Cleric Stance on and wouldn't stop DPSing until the tank was LITERALLY one mob's hit away from dying. I, as an ARCANIST, a DPS, started healing the tank when he'd fall below 20%, and the CNJ wouldn't pick up until well after I'd healed the tank back to around 50%. This happened several times, and being the healer main that I was, I started to focus on DESPERATELY KEEPING THE TANK ALIVE in place of the healer who would rather just DPS. After a while, the healer just started to stay in Cleric Stance, probably because he saw me healing. That's when I (nicely) said, "You do know I am a DPS and you are a healer, correct?" To which he responded, "Lol, then why are you healing?" "You're letting the tank's HP fall to a dangerously low level consistently and DPSing even during huge pulls when the tank's HP will fall fast." He says, "I don't overheal." I tell him, "There's a difference between not overhealing and nearly allowing the tank to die. Switch out of Cleric Stance and start keeping the tank alive, please."
His response: "Lol, why don't you just keep healing him and I'll stay in Cleric Stance? I'll do more DPS than you spamming Blizzard II." Which was true, and at the time I didn't realize that despite it being AoE damage, it was pretty insignificant AoE damage. :P I still think my response was pretty clever though: "Go ahead. I'll do a better job at keeping the tank alive than a healer that only DPSes."
He switched out of Cleric Stance, and the tank went ahead and pulled. This time, I decided not to heal. He stood there an let the tank's HP drop, then tried frantically healing the tank when, once again, he was one hit away from death. Didn't work this time, and the group wiped. I think that made my point, because he actually healed for the rest of the instance. I didn't even need to throw in any "assistance heals" until the final boss.
Hey, if he wasn't so snotty with me, I'd be more than willing to teach him how to healer. :|
