the same article also mentioned rdm. It is possible that it could have been a longer term job for a different class. However, one can also imagine and archer being a bard.

The main problem i think people have, is putting the two jobs together kind of lowers the chance of a more support heavy real instrument using bard, and it doesnt go with the idea that people have for archer. It would be fine if there was more than one option for archer, but if they can only be bard, its kind of sad.

I think that is teh major problem with the job system as proposed. some things fit well, and others feel like they are forcing classes into jobs. Con->whm thm->blm and archer->brd? stand out. Not only do they kind of clash, but they lower the possibility of their being classes with a stronger synergy for those roles.

Thm isnt really what most people want from a blm
Con loses half its cool stuff if its a whm
archer being brd isnt the type DD or support people might want for a bow user, and makes it so a true instrumentalist is unlikely.

That said the pic is pretty awesome, and does still inspire me to play the system. But im a pug, and i love the FF monk concept. Even though they dont entirely intersect.

honestly it would probably be better if these jobs had at least 2 alternatives for each. and maybe some added weapon choices for some jobs.
pug could go monk or assassin
    gladiator fencer or paladin
    mrd war or bserker
    con whm or blm
    thm some 2 new things
archer some actual bow based job and one more support oreinted.

    etc.

    Still overall pretty exciting pic.

Or they could have just decided not to lock jobs to weapons.

Or at the very least, they could have decided not to lock each job to only ONE weapon (class).

I agree with you though. The whole thing just reeks of forced fanservice, and ends up clashing awfully with the existing game mechanics. = fail.

having the roles seperate from the classes would have been good. But its highly unlikely they will deviate that far from their plans. I really have no problem with fan service, it just seems like they will end up doing their fans a diservice by having watered down versions of the classes they may have loved. Con isnt whm enough for someone who really loves being a healer, they only have a few healing/protection skills. Thm is really far from what people have wanted for blm. And brd is only tangently connected to what people wanted from a bow user, which is closer to a ranger/hunter. And most bard lovers want to be a lot more closely associated with music and support, rather than the DD heavy archer class.

So really its like they are fake serving the fans.

That said i can imagine a good fun ranged bow using bard class, and see how thm could focus into a death/shadow magic based DD class. but these things arent that well connected with the ideas behind most of the iconic jobs whose names they are using.

Also when they specialize, you will really start to notice the lack of jobs. Just feels like even if this was their job plan, one to one, or even tree, they should have saved some roles for classes that really represent said job.
