No definately switch to a job at 30, i mean lets say u got to 60 as scholar you can go back, do the level 30 summoner unlock quest and you will instantly have a level 60 summoner. You will have to do the summoner job quests to unlock all your abilities tho
If you need any beginner tips on healing with classes my friend has a great beginners guide:

Also has one for Tanking if your friend would like to watch:

Good luck & hope you guys have fun, Welcome to FFXIV! ^_^b

ill put in my 2 cents
if you're gonna play a healer class/job might i suggest u pick conjurer/white mage 1st. its much easier to learn all about healing for someone that is new. scholar is a bit more tricky in that u need to manage your fairy healing pet as well.

I'd agree with at least going Conjurer at first if only because every healing class needs to cross class several of their moves. Primarily Cleric Stance, Protect and Stoneskin which are all non-optional if you are going to heal. Well I mean...I guess they are optional but you'll make yourself miserable and other people unhappy. Besides you'll need to get it to 15 to become a Scholar from Arcanist anyhow.
Also as said, whatever you pick, definitely become a job at 30. For example if you want a WHM you level Conjurer to 30 and then Arcanist up to 15. At that point a job quest unlocks and Conjurer turns to WHM and you continue to level up to 60. Wiki pages will tell you which classes you need to get jobs unlocked and which cross class skills you can use. The nice thing is that if you then wanted to be a Summoner you would just go back and continue leveling Arcanist. Once you got it to 30 you could then go do the Job quest to become a Summoner and continue leveling Summoner from there. Generally it would go much faster than your first class because the greater the disparity between your highest class and the one you are leveling the more of a boost you get.
Welcome to the game.

If you are a full premade the game doesn't enforce roles.
As another side note! Since you have a static 4 person premade, any dungeon's you do that are 4 mans can be done with w/e 4 you wish to bring. As a summoner, you COULD heal... but you won't be very effective. Summoner focus's on intelligence to dish out more dmg. Healer's focus on mind to bring out better heals. You could try to stack mind into your summoner, but it wouldn't be half as effective as a healer.
As many mentioned though, summoner and scholar share their upgrades as both are based on Arcanist. So leveling one will level the other. The issue is that you can't choose where to reallocate your attribute points (not the biggest deal though). Up to your play style really.
Also, there's an option when going into duty finder to change some things. You guys can go in unsync'd if you'd like (but at the expense of gaining experience from kills). When you reach high enough levels, you can blow through some solo, so you REALLY don't need a healer :P But you can even do this with whatever your current level's are (so maybe the cap is 25, but you're lvl 30; you'll go in at 30 and not lose some moves).
But if you guys want to do everything together, then yea, you need a healer. But don't let that stop you from playing a class you want to as well. You'll find you like many classes. I honestly like doing Tanking the most, but still love healing and DPS'ing. Each has their own merits.
Don't worry. I'll spam cure the crap out of you with my Paladin.

For the first few dungeons you can go for the most part in any party composition tbh. The healing done via summoner or blm is enough to be honest. ~32 though is where you will kinda need to have a dedicated healer.
Thank for all the reply guys :3 it really helped me alot , sorry i cant quote the post but i 've been reading all the comments you gave meand i just unlock my scholar and summoner, does scholar pet (selena and Eos) camnot do any attack in sic mode?

If your pet is in Sic it will use its cool downs when ever it feels like it in fights regardless of if it is a good or bad time. Obey, it will auto attack but not use its larger abilities until you give the order. Hence its best to learn to manage your pet rather than leaving them on auto pilot in most cases. For example a later pet for Summoner is a Garuda Egi and has an ability called Contagion that extends your dots. If you have her on Sic she may chose to cast it before you even apply dots to begin with or before you have finished doing so.
My summoner is not max level yet so maybe someone who has more time invested can say if there are other circumstances for using Sic but I've only used it when leveling outside dungeons etc with my tanking pet out.
