I never talk on Vent, because I play in a room where other people are doing other things, and it's annoying to them. On top of that, I don't really want to hear anyone else's voice. More interested in what they write than what they prattle on about, or hearing them shout at their mom, et ceteraWhen I do play I try to be friendly to other players, but as another user mentioned, there are barriers to being friendly, like when crafting, it makes it nearly impossible to chat with someone. I sometimes find myself slipping into the mindset that communication in the game is more trouble than its worth.
We have a vent server, but its a challenge to get players from this game on ventrilo, at least it has been for my friends. I don't know if its mentality, or if there is nothing in the game that actually requires strategy/planning, or a combination of both.
lets all move to the same server then we can all be friends!! (group hug)... hmmm! which server to move to though???
Saronia server has lots of friendly people though. It just seems to me that lately, when you pass a stranger in game and wave or say hi, no one responds... in the earlier stages of the game it was easy to make friends, now people dont even want to team up for leves. I've made a comeback to the game after a long break and i find it hard to break the ice with players, the game seems cold now.
I would be more worried about the people on this forum. They are all but polite or friendly. :-)
Lacrimae you were on my flist waay back in november or december last year remember "Erevis Cale"?
who needs friends anyway
Try connecting to people on a more personal level than just picking them out of the crowd randomly and attempting to talk to them. Form a group to do something, get to know the people in your group, add them to your friend's list, and then do stuff with them later.
Help someone out who is even newer and less experienced with the game than you. If you are playing with someone quite a bit and feel comfortable doing so, maybe ask them for some tips on how they play their class.
Ask them if they craft and then ask if they can attempt to make something for you rather than buying it randomly on the MW (of course don't just ask them to give it to you for nothing, get the materials and a little extra for them to make it worth their time).
All of this serves the function of making you less of a complete stranger, I think you need to remember that just because it is an online game doesn't mean everyone treats it like a completely anonymous and random chat room.
Do these things and in a short amount of time you will have lots of people to talk to, you will probably find yourself in a linkshell (or two), and you'll be able to enjoy genuine personal interaction with others. If you play long enough doing this you might even find you know a good portion of the server, and just like that you are a part of the community.
Making friends or even just acquaintances requires more than a random encounter in most cases.
I'm on Saronia as well.It just seems to me that lately, when you pass a stranger in game and wave or say hi, no one responds... in the earlier stages of the game it was easy to make friends, now people dont even want to team up for leves. In general it seems to me like English speaking players keep to their Linkshells most of the time -- sometimes completely ignoring non-members.
Honestly, I think your best bet is to try to get into a Linkshell with members that match your play style.
But I'll say "hi" if I see you. ^^
Good luck!
Thanks for the love Mikita i just got invited to 2 shells woot!
