Tanking Hotbar/Crossbar Setups

I think it could be useful to show how you setup your hotbars and/or crossbars, could be helpful to other players on how to more effectively/efficiently set up their own if they are having trouble with it. If there's another thread in the tank forums on this same topic, sorry, didn't find it :P





I don't like using macros for my abilities or cooldowns on any job, so yeah. I also usually try to keep the more used buttons on the face buttons and yada yada. GCD Attacks mostly on face buttons for ease of reach and movement.

But IMHO trying to copy anyone's binds will not help you. Binds are personal, what is very effecient for one player might very well be absolutely terrible for another.

A player needs to find the setup that works for them.

While true, I usually find threads like this incredibly helpful. People can think of things you might not have, and new tanks can get some idea of what more seasoned players do with their UI.

That said, I'll be editing this again this evening with my own setup. And macros. Because I have a bunch (I'm stubborn and refuse to have a third action bar).

To get stuff out of the way in terms of how my HUD looks, I'm playing the game at 4k with the hotbars at 140% size. I make sure to zoom all the way out and line up the top hotbar with the bottom of my characters feet. The reason I do this is because I'm terrible with pushing numbers and use my mouse for everything except movement (WASD.) This is to include targeting enemies unless tab target works, moving the camera around, and selecting skills to use.

Ideally for those that use their mouse a majority of the time, what you want to do is minimize "search time" for getting to any particular skill. That's also the reason some of my skills are on there more than once.

EDIT: It's changed slightly since I uploaded that photo as well. Fight or Flight is to the left of Royal Authority. My potions have been relocated to the right of Royal Authority. The enemy I have targeted at the time is just under my own HP, MP, and TP bar as well. The enemy enmity list is to the left of my hotbars.

5-7 are on mouse as is Alt-5 and Alt-6.

I was actually thinking something like this earlier. I'm levelin my PLD up from 50 and am getting lost when adding new abilities. I'm on PS3 and only use 2 hot bars on my controller so I'm having to throw out abilities to make room.

One of the things I do to conserve space is use the Macro 98 or 99 and set it to either L3 or R3. For me I set Macro 99 to R3 and for that macro it is:

/ac Shield Oath
/ac Sword Oath
This allows you to swap between Sword/Shield oath by the push of 1 button.

I might just upload a video soon showing people about action swaping with macros just to help some people.

Not a bad idea... I use a wireless keyboard because like I said earlier, I'm on PS3 and the keyboard they make you use is ridiculous to use in game. I'll prolly just try to throw some macros or abilities on a key bind and see if that works for me.

My Hotbar 8 (accessed with L2>R2 or R2>L2) has my defensive buffs on them, such as Foresight, Shelltron, etc.
