The same topic came up after fying was introduced in WOW, so in the latest expansion they grounded all the mounts. Needless to say it didn't take long for people to want flying back. Long term effects of removing flying in WOW? Well you have probably seen WOW's subscriber numbers dwindle in gaming news..? Bottom line flying is awesome especially to people who can't play a lot, which is most of FFXIV's player base.

Also I'm not saying flying is the only factor in WOW decline.

    Did it ruin my immersion?
    Not in any way.

A sense of danger is ok for the first 100 times through an area, after that, its down right annoying only.
Just my opinion, but it enhanced my enjoyment 10 fold as opposed to not having it in the past.

    Clean pure honest answer NO.

I couldn't wait to unlock flying and liked it.

    Does Flying Kill Immersion?

Nope. If anything, the immersion is enhanced. I only wish the 2.0 game had included and been designed around flying.

You posted pictures of 2.0 areas which are not designed for flying and you can't fly there. The 3.0 areas are designed for flying and they are vast and have beautiful scenery designed to be viewed from above. So no flying is not the killing any immersion.

To me, flying is like toggling off collision in skyrim and setting a higher speedmult while I'm at it.

Quick and convenient travel, no dangers or inconveniences whatsoever, quite funny to see everything from below for once as well. But it makes pretty much everything except a few points of interest pointless and I'm ultimately playing a more tedious testinghall.

So yeah, I only unlocked flying where I had to - sea of clouds and azys lla.

I think the same, it somehow kills immersion, but in the end it's all up to you.

I love lore and immersion, so whenever I fly an I have free time, I end up changing the camera or stopping anywhere to watch the map from other perspectives.
Also I like to level other jobs and do all world quests, so I ended up stepping everywhere!

Maybe we need more "immersive flying" maps like Azys Lla!

Ive found plenty of immersive moments in Heavensward. I don't think Flying has particularly undermined it. If anything its added to the opportunity to discover such vistas because of the ability to shift perspective so much. Particularly zones like the Churning Mists, the Sea of Clouds and Azys Lla use space really well to just give you an epic sense of scale particularly when the weather is right.

If we didn't have flying mounts in the new zones how would we have ever gotten to experience Sky Bear? T___T
