It's considered a joke from their developers as well... until they decide to actually use it as a reason for not including X content.

I think the gear is fine, black and purple is the theme of the instance. So far I love what I see from Void Ark. This is starting to look like promyvion but cooler. This game got issues, gear models aren't one of them. I'm more sad that the minimum Ilvl is 175, that means I'm already overgeared for this by almost 20 item levels and it isn't even out yet -.-;;;; We already have Alex Normal at ilvl 170, this should have been like ilvl 190 at least.

That was so they could implement Sky Island exploration and there are new gear sets for that content too though they don't seem to be job specific.
