Easily Central Shroud in Gridania. Maybe near Bentbranch Meadows.
I love the Shroud, Especially Central Shroud, because it's very similar to the geography of my home IRL. I've always lived in the woods IRL so why not in game too?

Not quite so much if you're a Keeper or a Duskwright, though.I love Limsa Lominsa and I'm a proud Maelstrom member, but for RL living I would go with Gridania. Nice air and temperature because of the forest, beautiful places, waterfalls, huge trees I can climb, chocobo stables... Gridania seems the most confortable and less corrupt city-state too.
All the City-States are terrible in their own way but they're terrible towards different groups of people. Limsa's bad if you're weak, Grindania's bad if you're the wrong race or a foreigner, Ul'Dah's bad if you're poor, Ishgard's bad if you're the wrong class or religion, Sharlayan's bad if you want anything from life other than passive scholarship . . . not sure what Ala Mhigo's specific internal problem was beyond "the king is a bit murder-happy, wot" but I'm sure we'll find out.

Ala Mhigo's original problem was their sovereign was so war mongering that he drove his nation into the proverbial ditch earning him the title "The King of Ruin". Their Current problem is the Garlen Meritocracy where if you aren't extremely exceptional or have enough dumb luck to survive 20+ years in their military you're no better to the Garlens than the Jews were to the Third Reich. Not quite so much if you're a Keeper or a Duskwright, though.

I'd say that the Garleans are more an external problem, though. A huge, huge external problem but one we'll hopefully be clearing-up automatically when we liberate the city?Ala Mhigo's original problem was their sovereign was so war mongering that he drove his nation into the proverbial ditch earning him the title "The King of Ruin". I'd say Sharlayan. Other than them hoarding knowledge just like the syndicate hoards gil, they seem to be decent enough. Architecture seems nice, technology is also fairly advance and you can make as much Porogoslavesfamiliars as you want.
It's also very far from Garlean threat

City: Ul'dah
I LOVE desert civilizations, and I love that it's based off of Rabanastre. People don't care what race you are, so long as you have money in your pocket. Gil is the great equalizer.
Town: Fallgourd Float

Hyrstmill. It's close enough to Gridania, but without the hustle and bustle of the city. Only problem is Gridanian food is said to be really bland.
If not, I'll take the Hermit's Hovel in Outer La Noseca...

If it were to be a pseudo-RL situation, I'd say I'd want to live in Gridania. It's fairly quiet, even for a city, and I love how it's in the thick of nature.
For in-game, I'd love to live in Limsa Lominsa. It's really gorgeous, and I love pirates!! I'm also a baker, so I love that the Culinarians' Guild is there also.
