So, Yoshi said they would try to get this added for 3.1, but there was no mention of it! Only the portrait... which is great, but it's no minion.

Is it still being worked on? Will it just be added later?

They announced an "unimportant" portrait, so.... ?????????

Can I not care about a minion as well as content? Is there a limited amount of "caring" that must all go to new content, and it's impossible to care about other stuff too?

It was a highly requested item after HW came out, a LOT of people wanted it. If you don't care then good for you, and feel free to ignore the thread.

Even if they don't intend to hold things back, I doubt they ever really announce and show of everything in live letters. And in this case in particular - there is a FATE in Hiroshima on 25 October, I guess with another live letter, so of course they'd still want to have things to reveal there. For now, just bet patient.

It'd be a shame if they were doing the portrait as a "cheap" way to try and satisfy people instead of making a minion. "Cheap" meaning that making a flat image is far less work than making a moving, potentially interactive minion.
The only solution is to keep pressing them about the minion, I guess.

Well, they promised both a minion and a portrait. I suppose they were able to make the portrait fast enough to show it at TGS.
