The only thing he has ever said that imparted some sense of vision is when he mentioned "the conductor approach" to SE's current design philosophy.

It wasn't elaborated on much after that.

That is the only sense of their vision I have got so far.

"I want people to love this game and I want people to do anything they want anyway they want" is not a vision. Its just a generic marketing statement.

What Azuryamber is asking for is direction as much as vision. If you think they aren't confident enough for either of those yet, then what the hell is driving their decisions up until this point for the past 9 months? You need vision and direction, at least partially. There is only so much pandering to every little complaint will do for the game. If decisions are not made with some grand overaching scheme in place then you will just get an incompatible mess of incohesive features.
Their focus is on fixing the current game, their "Vision" for stuff to come has yet to fully manifest since all their time and resources are dumped into making the game appropriate for PS3 release, those who watch anxiously for good news and us loyal players. Asking Yoshi for his vision is like asking Sony how they plan to make a PS5 before they even started work on the PS4.

Fixing the game how? To answer that question involves a direction/vision.

    Ugh.

this is a serious problem. When much better MMO's are released why would anyone even care to think of FFXIV if all it is, is a "work in progress" with no sense what so ever of what it will someday become?

The game needs a vision + somewhat of a timeline at some point. And since they game was supposed to be fixed by the end of the summer, now is getting to that point. (Although I realize it won't really be fixed for another half year)

    Vision, direction, design philosophy, approach

Call it what you will, all these things are necessary when adding content, but also when making changes to preexisting content too. People say they can't have a vision until they change/fix the game, but changing and fixing the game blindly with no direction or design philosophy is a principle I fail to understand, and quite frankly, is a huge problem if this is actually what's happening.

I mean, for example, there have been lots of "fixes" that have made me go "wtf" because they basically changed something I liked about the game in the first place.

So what was the motivation behind this change/fix? What was the approach, design philosophy, vision, direction, if any, that motivated these specific changes and "fixes" ? That's what I would like to know.

In fact, while I am at it, there are many things that make me think there is no real, definitive design strategy.

Once Yoshi mentioned "bringing FFXIV to standard". He said that there were lots of things "MMO players" (ha, like they're all the same!) expect from an MMO which FFXIV doesnt have. And that he intends now to implement these things.

So then you have to wonder: "is there anything else to his leadership than imitating what other MMOs have done?"

That doesn't inspire much enthusiasm. And quite frankly frightens me, because FFXIV is quite an atypical MMO in many respects and I'm glad of it! I just hope he shows some restraint when he hacks away at the game with the pretense of standardising it.

i'm kinda thinking same way user is, there is i'm sure a set goal. ..other then please as many people as possible there must be concrete stem they are building the mmo with. it is all i'm seeing myself in the changes, they started off with a vision to be a specific game and now it's in motion to be a game to please all? but that is the only part of the vision i can see right now.

God, your threads are annoying. The vision is already there. Are you asking where the world is going story wise? Review the lore. What are you talking about? They are redoing basic systems in the game then eventually expanding on this vision you seem to think is not already there.

If you use intelligent thought, and take the quotes that were kindly copied and given, you could start to form a safe assumption as to where the game will be going. Of course, further explanation on this would be nice. However, when things are undergoing development you can't expect full disclosure on these things. Maybe you don't know because they don't know. Maybe they know and don't want to tell you until their work is finished.

What gets me is you'd rather know all these specifics regarding the direction, when you were just arguing immersion in another thread. Isn't the point to um... not know these things and watch them unfold?
