Why do you keep playing FFXIV ?

Last night, i logged off, and thought about "Why do i keep playing?"

Im a fairly new player, so you could say that this question isnt even justified, now that i havent seen the entire end game.

But will it be like my WoW days? Logging in on raiding nights, raid for 2-3 hours, logoff and play something else?

I guess my question is also : What stuff do you actually do ingame, beside a few raiding nights ?

Id love to hear from anyone.

    I don't raid.

I GLAMOUR (glamour is true endgame don't let anyone say otherwise).

Edit: Okay I do a few other things. I do like gearing up, for fun (and glamour, need that Bard AF2). I also like running dungeons so that repitition doesn't bother me. I also gather endgame and that pretty much determines where I'm camping out at any given point of the ingame day... oh well.
I log in also to talk to friends

Since I hit lvl 60 and got a full Law set (and thus everything else I could get as an upgrade got a weekly limit), it really depends.
On most days I log in, chat a bit with the FC, run my Expert and Trial roulettes, and then switch to my DRG to do the leveling roulette.
After the roulettes I either log off if I don't feel like playing anymore and go play something else, or I level BTN.
Usually I do at least Alex 1 and Alex 4 for a drop sometime during the week.

I have goals set, and I want to manage to do them. Like for my main I would like to have every class 60, but I don't want to rush like crazy to get them to 60, I do it with my own peace and I like it that way. My main point with my alt now is get the relic done (have 2 relics on my main).

On the other hand I log into the game to see my friends that i can't see them IRL, and i have fun with them

I dunno. I'm just bored and this is cheap entertainment.

For me, the main draw in FFXIV is actually Eorzea itself... I just think it's a really nice world, and the fact that you only need one character to do everything means that I've become really attached to my character. I tend to take breaks from the game about a month before each patch since I run out of things to do and as I don't raid anymore there's not a lot of drive to get all those tomes and get all the best gear. I'll log in, level some other classes for a bit or do something fun with my friends and then probably go do something else for a bit.

When the expansion hit though, and for each patch, I'm so into it. Exploring more of Eorzea with my friends is what it's all about for me at the moment. I might pick up raiding again in 3.1, but we'll see.

Depends on you, but if you come from that background I would say the answer is yes.

I play for the challenge. Raiding is the only thing that's keeping me subbed atm. My raid group hasn't raided a lot because of too many issues coming up every week but as soon as we clear A4S, I might just farm for a few more weeks after that and then take a break until next set of savage raid. I have little interest in 3.1.

i like talking to people, making friends, and doing stuff with people, so that's some pretty big motivation.

i feel somewhat accomplished when i clear stuff or improve my gear and what have you.

and, of course, need that glamour. gotta make my room cute too. gotta get a house some day. gotta make that money.

For me it varies. Ill usually have a set of things I do everyday such as the roulettes as I lvl everything for the story and for the freedom to hop into whatever class takes my fancy. That means I usually still always find value in endgame currency for quite a while. I'll also do my hunts since they are quick, help with the gearing and give a good amount of exp.

After I have that done it really depends on what I feel like. I might chase glamours including the old relics, go gathering materials for my FC workshop's current project, Start working on a crafting endgame item, help some of my FC members at whatever they are doing, run Alex, try and see if I can get a Primal group, do any old content I've missed in the past, spend some time playing around in the Gold Saucer or even just travel to visit old NPCs to see if their dialog has changed at all when things in the MSQ have affected them in anyway. You would be surprised how often this happens.

The only thing I haven't done which I have been thinking about trying a bit is the PvP.

There's plenty to do if it takes your fancy, particularly if your new.
