Games like this mostly use the money they earn to keep servers running. Being self sustaining on your game's funds is a huge deal. I work on a game that operates like this and it was a big day in the office when the game finally made enough money to sustain itself. After that, money is used to try and beef up and improve the product.

Obviously some money goes to shareholders and employees, etc, but the idea that money made by these "play into perpetuity" games goes into lining the pockets of people first and foremost is just silly.

They've technically already done that with the outfits from marriage and the cash shop only dyes.

I don't consider dyes gear, but don't they have a free marriage option? Regardless, that cost me $10 for the dyeable version + a chocobo + the entire wedding. Call me hypocritical, but they spent a lot of dev efforts, and then put in a free option so I'm fine with it. What I'm not fine with is tasking a few staff to work on a single outfit, and then sell that for $10+ alone. If I wanted to deal with that crap I'd be playing Guild Wars 2, SWTOR, ArcheAge, or one of the many B2P/F2P MMOs. I pay a sub for a reason, and that's to avoid things like that.

Make it into a F2P game model with a P2P fee? I'll leave right then and there. I know Yoshida isn't willing to throw away his values just for a little bit of extra money into Square's pocket's either, he knows why people like the P2P model as stated by him many times.

Keep in mind you have to double the price of any of the wedding options, as you must buy one for yourself and for your partner.
As I said earlier free only gives you a much simpler looking and undyeable version. The paid marriage options have unique outfits that are dyeable and look slightly different.

I don't consider it a big deal either just thought I'd point it out. :P

I don't see a problem with the Cash Shop to be honest. It's incredibly harmless. Past event gear and some dyes is hardly something worth being upset over.

Not all of them, just the older ones. New ones from this year aren't in the cash shop from what I can tell.
