Gear that is based on ilvl, dutyfinder instead of openworld, you encounter a person once on dutyfinder but openworld you get to know ppl on your server, huge amount of grind causing people to want everything done fast...
Lots of stuff that breeds elitism... I see no problems, (sarcasm).
I gotta disagree with the idea of " it is just now that we have HW that we are meeting with people that are jerks". When I started the game on the last week of Feb, I found neutral people cuz I didn't play much the game. On the second month when I actually started playing, I met very nasty people. In all content in game and not just in NA.
The Friends I made in my server suggested me to never df in NA server so I did what they told me. I didn't just find jerks players, but jerks players that could barely speak English and were trying to tell me "F off" in another language. The only thing my friends told me is that I got bad luck.
We are going to find good and bad ppl no matter where we go. We go to China,France, England or stay home and we are still going to find bad and good people
Nah, it's been like that since 2.0 you've just been doing them with your FC.Since Heavensward came out, I've noticed a disturbing trend: Do it my way or **** off.
I generally run instances with my FC, but occasionally a girl's got to pug an instance. With that, I've encountered a long stream of "I don't want to do it that way /votekickmemberwhosuggestedit"
Are you kidding the atmosphere is much worse in Duty Finder in FF14 than LFG in WoW. maybe the NA WoW servers are worse but not the European ones.
I've had many worse experiences in DF than LFG since it has been released circa 2009. You find a lot of these players have never played WoW.
Eh, this DF trouble isn't anything new. The first time I ran Stone Vigil back in 2.0, within 5 minutes (after stating that it was my first time in the instance) I was called a homophobic slur, told that I was a terrible player, and told that I should commit suicide. This was before the vote kick was added, though I doubt if I had tried to kick anyone it would have worked. There were two people making comments at me, so they were clearly there together. I left after that and reported them.
Things like this happen rarely, thankfully. I still avoid Stone Vigil as much as possible. I get impatient jerks a lot, of course, but they're easy to deal with. But most of the time I try to run with friends if I can.
Terms of Service:3.3 Profanity and Offensive Language. You may not use profanity or any language that a reasonable person would find offensive. The Game is for players aged 13 and older. You agree to behave accordingly....Yep.
Fun fact: Duty Finder ignores your blacklist and you can end up in an instance with someone on it. There are two non-RMT people I have permanently blacklisted on my server for being stupid trash (the incident that kicked it off was tea-bagging my character while I was crafting. Really guys?) Somehow I ended up in a WoD run with one of them as tank and me as healer. That was quite awkward.
The toxic attitude is nothing new. Things I've found to diffuse situations:
- If you wipe, ask "What went wrong?" if you don't know. Someone had to explain the letter markers in A4 to me because my friend, who is only a tank, didn't know what the DPS did with them.
- If it is very obviously your fault, accept responsibility and apologize. Happens to me a lot when I tank or heal (only on DPS if I got hate somehow.) People are more likely to forgive and forget if you recognize your own fail first.
- If someone tells you a trick, try it. It may not work but it can't hurt to try.
- A witty quip can sometimes diffuse tension, but make sure it's actually witty first. Self-deprecating humor is best.
I'm pugging my DRs nearly always and I find very very few bad people to be honest. It probably happens to me around 1-2 every months..? Could it really be a datacenter thing? On the apposite note having to interact with rude and nasty people was everyday life in ARR Crystal Tower, in fact I disliked them completely for that reason.
In my experience I've gotten mostly good results in Duty Finder. Most people are very nice, casually friendly or totally silent. I can count on one hand the times I've used Duty Finder and had an abysmal experience and one of those instances was the age old issue of trying to do the last two dungeons in the 2.0 story mode and getting yelled at for trying to watch cutscenes. (Something I fixed by leaving that particular raid group and just setting up my own party afterwards with FC members who ran me through it while letting me watch them. So no real big deal.)
So I guess I've just gotten lucky? I hear all these horror stories and get nervous, thinking: "Oh god... when will my time come for this kind of experience...?"
One hopes never but I'll try not to be that optimistic. :P
This is a crazy amount of horror stories, I have also seen the occasional bad attitudes while running DF. Unfortunately, I have also had a bad attitude while running DF. I am so sorry to that WAR tank that ended up votekicking me, you were right and I was out of line. After reading through these posts I am going to make more of an effort on being understanding and kinder in my DF runs. I don't want these things to become more prevalent. The community isn't some abstract entity, it's me and you and that guy who quotes obscure 90's anime. Sometimes I can be the reason someone doesn't enjoy this game, and I don't want that to ever be the case. I was originally going to say some quip about how grateful I will be when these WoW kids go back to their game, but that would mean being happy that this game loses subs, and thats horrible.
