Never played WoW. Started my MMO career on TOP(extremely old and grindy MMO). I know quite a few people who didn't play WoW either. Actually, in my old circle of friends it was "lame" to play WoW. LOL. Honestly, I don't know why we thought that. I was 12 or something back then. It was just a thing that happened.

Anyway... I can't say how many in the community came from WoW. Not exactly sure if it matters... the devs certainly listen to the playerbase, but ultimately they make the final decision. The housing system/personal housing system(the way they were originally implemented) is an example of something that the community didn't influence.

Ah yes, another Skizzle thread full of thinly-veiled FFXI wanking.

Are you really questioning the fact that S-E does not listen to the vocal minority of people who would have them regress the game back to 1.0 or wanted FFXIV to be FFXI-2? Is it really mystifying to you that S-E would listen to the larger playerbase, or that the voice of the majority should be the devs' guideline for how the game should be?

S-E got burned hard on FFXIV 1.0 and when they remade it into ARR they fixed their reputation and achieved a much larger degree of success. Like it or not, it only makes sense that they should listen to the larger playerbase that they brought in with ARR, so that they might maintain those subscribers.

I'm sorry Skizzle, but making 200 threads about how you want this game to be FFXI is not going to make the devs turn it into FFXI. Give it a rest already. FFXI was a good game but it would not work in the modern MMO market, not for a big-budget publisher like Square Enix. That's just the way it is.

Adn: If my post bothers you that much just ignore it you already know what I'm trying to discuss here and trying to provoke something else like you clearly are doing is just childish. You didnt have to reply at all if you don't want to contribute with replies that are about what im trying to discuss. Lets just leave it at that. If there was a block button I would block you with pleasure so you don't have to see my posts at all since they seem to bother you that much that you must accuse me of things.

@Zorif: I cant wait for Dragon Quest X myself I really want to try it out.

    Depends on server I guess.
When I was in Gilgamesh I had a miserable time there and didn't want to log in because North American players are pretty toxic showing signs of elitism, always bringing up how they miss World of Warcraft, acting very rude to me and other players, not wanting to show signs of building a community.

Tonberry it's a non issue most of the time, do catch quite a few NA data center rejects here and there but they get quickly shut down, I've cleared things I had trouble with in Gilgamesh, I've made some nice friends, I'm happy here and wouldn't dream of going to Duty Finder with Americans again.
A majority of players who speak English in Tonberry tend to bring up how horrible the NA community is.

    Guess it's just cultural difference.

Can't talk about 1.0, but two weeks ago my wife got a player going apeshit crazy at her because she called the person "Mr" and the player was a she. We both sat there, disbelieving how much the said player got offended. That's just an example of the kind of experience we've been having during HW. I even, more than once, broke my own rule to not engage in dumb arguments during DF runs, but I have seems so many foul mouthed, disrespectful, unskilled players since the expac launch that I even started vote kicking people or simply not waiting for their Cutscenes (as I'm just in a hurry to get out of the dungeon and their presence).

So, yeah, even being a fanboy I have the feeling the quality of the players in this game is on a declining and I'm considering quitting.

I played FFXI (5 years), I played WoW for 10 mins and never touched it again, couldn't stand it. Played FFXIV 1.0 for 8 months, Played the beta to ARR. Decided to wait a while to pick up play, but did like the way it was headed.. And now I can say I am glad I did so.. I don't think a bunch of WoW players are leading the way for this game though.. As I participated in the beta and my voice was also heard. We gave feedback and I had to agree with most of the majority. This is FF, Doesn't remind me of WoW, sure some elements of it are here, same could be said from many mmo's including FFXI.. Some people cry a lot, but just cuz they do doesn't mean they are from WoW, just means hey are whiney entitled brats that needed a few more whoopins from momma.. O.o lol

I would like the opinions from the 1.0-1.23 and FFXI players that are active on this forum on a few of the things here.

From looking at the replies of many people that are active on these forums it feels like the majority of players are people from WoW who needed an envoirmental change.
SE and Yoshi P are doing a fantastic job as a overall business when it comes to profit from a brand most of us love and enjoy.
5m accounts does not mean 5 million active subscribers we all know this. Still 5 million accounts still mean that its atleast 5m games that got sold for 39,99euros minimum thats amazing!

My thoughts are since the majority of the gamers now out of these 5m accounts are clearly people from a WoW envoirment and gaming mentality do you guys feel like they are controlling the path of this game and their voice is heard more than everyone else?
I played XI for close to five years from near the beginning of WotG to the release of XIV
I played Ragnarok Online for at least four years before that
I played WoW on and off from Vanilla and Burning Crusade

To me, it's less about "WoW environment" and more about gamer mentality as a whole. The meta for the casual gamer has changed immensely and in order to be successful, the game needs to be engaging and fulfilling. Most gamers aren't looking to be "oh, and I click this button and ding, I'm maximum level and gear level", but are looking to stay engaged long enough to feel entertained and pushing forward. The MMO genre as of late has always been about that carrot on the stick and WoW was the first to truly streamline it into something on the casual front. It sold in spades and now it's consider the market normal - thus while it's clear that XIV has had several influences from that game, it is trying its best to find its own identity in the murk of the MMO genre.

I believe the developers (or perhaps I should say the marketting/ CEOs overseeing this particular project) already have an audience in mind, and they dont listen to much anyone says. That said, it would appear the those you mention do appear to belong to that audience so they are more likely to get the things they want to see in the game.

I refrained from posting this in one of the many anniversay events (out of courtesy for those that genuinely appreciated the event) , but I will say it here, since its appropriate.

Working their asses off? The event was very small, barely worth calling an event, let alone an anniversary event (which is typically notably larger with more effort put into it then a regular seasonal event).

All it was, was the developers patting themselves on the back for a job well done. Thats literally all it was. The only notable thing about the event was the 2 minions it provided.

Except I contributed a reply answering EXACTLY what you wanted to discuss, which was whether or not the game's direction is being steered by the so-called "WoW environment"-conditioned players that you are speaking of.

I did throw in a bit of an aside at the end because frankly it is tiresome (and I am not the only one who feels this) to see you continually make posts that are nothing but furtive little attempts at saying you don't like the current game direction and liked the grind of 1.0 and XI better. People already complain about the grind as it is, and you are gravely mistaken if you believe they are going to make this game a hardcore grind.

I don't need to "accuse" you of a single thing, the evidence is in your post & created thread history. I'm sorry you feel that my response was childish, I'm simply telling you like it is.

You never played FFXI when it was released, from this statement I have to assume that. FFXI was more of a challenge ( before the cap was raised to 99 and it became "easy") then WoW ever could hope to imagine.
