At the very least we should have the tattoo of our patron deity /twelve or something like that

I love the idea, but I suspect its a lot of work. Currently the model system replaces the various body parts with the model of the gear. The skin parts we see are in fact parts of the gear 'dyed' to match the color of the skin underneath. When you add tattoos to that you need to have an addition version of every gear piece that shows skin for every different tattoo introduced to the game. Effectively say one swimsuit chest piece with say 15 different torso tattoos will require 15 different separate skins for the same model. This is how they deal with the legacy tattoo I think since there have been occasions where gear pieces have been added where the legacy tattoo didn't show when the gear was released.
This means that the game has to store a vastly larger number of gear models. It also means that every piece of armor that shows skin has to be modified for every tattoo added both retroactively and in the future. So to make body tattoos work they will either have to overhaul the games model system or spend a lot more time on the working on armor designs.
Simply put regardless of how they add tattoos, its highly likely it will be a major piece of work which will require either a substantial system overhaul or a lot of retroactive remodelling. If we ever see them I imagine they would be part of expansion feature. Its is one I'd love to see though. Having a good looking character is one of the fun aspects of games like this.

Signed! But i'm sure we'll get the same excuse we always seem to get now, "Adding more tattoos would cause the servers to crash!". lol I kid i kid!![]()

Memory limitations. Whatever we ask and specifically about character customization, inventory space and housing options the dev team and Yoshi in person always bring up the server memory limitations about those. They state they reached the maximum memory allocation and can't add more options any time soon. I'm not a server technician or a game programmer to accept or dismiss his statement as true but I'm a bit skeptical about his statements on those matters. I really wonder if this an easy excuse they come with or if it is the hard sad truth about this game. And if this is the truth I really wonder if the hardware for servers they use is poor or they have really limited budget or it's just a poor implementation. Maybe we will never know but for now they can't add anything more because of the memory limitation as Yoshi states.

That's an interesting way to go about it... I had no idea that the gear was dyed to match our skin tones but I guess it makes sense since there's less of a load on the server. I think I also remember Yoshi saying something about wanting to separate the Au Ra horns from the faces, but there's a limited amount of data that can be held for a particular race, and Au Ra is all maxxed out.

Bumping this thread![]()
Let the tattoos from other races be used by all races. +_+

Being from Scotland, I would love to see some Celtic (or Norse) themed tattoos available for various parts of the body. If they had really nice Celtic designs for the thighs/legs, I kid you not, I would run about Eorzea pantsless all day long![]()
