I'm not sure that the 3.0 dungeons were designed the same way. I'll be surprised if we wind up with more than two dungeons each major patch, this time around. Even if 3.0 dungeons WERE designed for reuse in the same way as 2.0 dungeons, there's a lot fewer of them; two Hard Modes each patch, and we'd run out awful fast!
Oh definitely, I think they're doing everything they can and I do see that the old dungeons were designed with remakes in mind. I just feel like they've really raised the bar with Heavensward and, y'know, their dev team has likely expanded a fair bit since the 2.1-2.2 days where these trends were introduced. I won't hold my breath for anything, though.

I totally agree here. HW added what 8 new dungeons? Yet only 2 of them are made relevant to max level characters, promoting extreme burnout.

Talk about an epic fail in design.

Seriously SE, you have the scaling system in place. Why this ridiculous segregation of content?!

Taking care of the majoirty of their players making sure that the scaling from 50 to 60 wasn't completely boring? Keeping the dungeon chain relevant for leveling for those who have more than one Job focus? That's not a failure at all. People who incinerate content at lightning speeds are burning themselves out. Just like they did in 2.0.

You want to help stem away that burnout, do Frontlines Roulette.

Right, because that disclaimer ever really made the difference in xi.

You'd have to take away the "adventure" part for FFXIV though.

You must not have been here in 2.0 as it was the exact same thing, expect less dungeons.. AK and WP, all day. then done for the week. oh and 300 myth cap, so it was quicker.

Don't forget to remove the "talk" part too, we all know no one says a word in dungeons, unless its to tell someone they're bad

Uff me thinks I joined somewhere in 2.3. Not sure though.
I always found it ridiculous that expert was limited to the 3 newest dungeons and being the only proper source of [insert capped tome] though because I don't see the point.

But I know it'll relax when more dungeons become available. So I'll do the mature thing and NOT ocd cap to prevent burning myself out.

Indeed, although people would just whine that they were being anti-hardcore or something.

...and already we see this reply to that disclaimer...

It's YOUR choice whether or not to ignore it, but it's a step in the right direction, and a reminder that you're playing a game, not working a job, that it's a leisure activity and should not be taken too seriously. Sure many will ignore it, but if it helps some avoid burn out, or causes others to treat people more pleasantly, it's had a positive impact - unlike your comment.

Exactly. Content locusts quickly destroy the content leaving them nothing left to consume, and they wonder why there is nothing left to do....

Personally to avoid burnout I limit my playing (life tends to apply that limit for me....), play other games occasionally, step off the treadmill in-game, watch a movie (just watch a movie, don't play a game, tweet, watch a movie and have your PC running FFXIV all at the same time), hug someone IRL, eat out, walk in the sunshine, smell the roses, reflect on how well you treat others, and whether that impacts how they treat you, etc...

The problem is not the lack of difficulty. It is the lack of "fresh" content. FF has provided no new features in HW and has only given players 2 dungeons to grind and 1 normal raid and 1 savage raid that are the same in story and looks. Saying, "have you beat savage yet?" is a terrible way to persuade people to keep playing because all they are getting is the same dungeon, but harder.

"Players get bored when they run out of content (and this can mean hitting a brick wall in addition to just completing everything). Content doesn't mean something they could theoretically do just for the sake of doing something. It means something they are motivated to do. Some players might have fun completing every single quest, but that doesn't mean it counts as content for everyone."
