XIV is an MMO which is supposed to be easy to get into. SE succeeded there. Why should it be easy to get into? Easy. Money. This man is right that this game is easier than XI but that is the point. They want popularity for this game so they could have more subscribers and thus more money.

Plus, XI also had a lot of artificial difficulty as well. Example? Building up a party. Sometimes, it took hours to get an established leveling party going because of the faulty party find system.

XIV IS going to be more casual friendly so new players can integrate into the community a lot easier. Of course, when it comes to balance, they also got to consider the veterans and those who do want a challenge. To obtain that type of balance, its like juggling balls and at any time, they can drop one (Make something too hard, make something too easy, make it hard to get into, etc.) and the forums is on fire with complaints.

Sorry, I don't wanna hear people mouth breathing, eating, taking bong hits, and/or mindlessly running their mouths when I'm playing. If voice chat was standard on this game i would have it disabled 99% of the time.

sounds like he expected the moon drizzled with chocolate on a stick made of pure mahogany and served on a silver platter.

People will play "bad" regardless. The only way they'll know their roles is if someone gives them pointers or they decide to look at their job guides. Otherwise, making leveling slower is not going to help these types of people. Additionally, people will always find the quickest and easiest way to level up and while dungeons give pretty good exp ... some people just don't want to deal with mechanics or other players and prefer to FATE grind.

Getting rid of chat for mandatory voice chat? .... no, but have an in-system voice chat is better than relying on 3rd party

Sounds like the wife is the bad player by simply getting rid of the chat box. If a healer is talking to the tank(wife), there's something wrong with what the tank (wife) is doing.

As many other's have said: Alexander Savage exists for those who want a challenge

Only thing he says that is not leveling needs to be harder (nestalgia at its best) to voice chat ( no one ever uses in game VO b/c of limited options). Is on Gil selling needing more attention. Does little for me in terms of voicing what I want like the other forum sizzle.

Stopped reading at mandatory voice chat. Dude is probably used to private Ventrilo/Mumble servers and assumes that's what it's going to be like. It's not. His wife is an idiot for getting rid of the chatbox, and the game should not be catered to people like that.

Also this dude works in IT and knows all about server loads obviously, so does he not realize that lag would be even worse if the servers were burdened with mandatory VOIP for every player?

Also FFXI nostalgia circle jerking. FFXI was a good game but a lot of its model would not work today. If they released ARR with mandatory grouping like FFXI it would have instantly flopped even harder than 1.0 did. I am perfectly happy with a more casual-friendly FFXIV because frankly hardcore MMOs are dead (Wildstar proved this)

What I got out of it is that his wife isn't adaptable but since she turns off the chat, people can't help her. It sucks to have someone be completely non-responsive, especially when you're trying to tell them how to do something so the party can proceed through the instance. Turning off the chat is all kinds of rude. It's basically telling the rest of your party "piss off, you aren't worth my time; just shut up and run me through this dungeon."

I dunno, I have to kind of shake my head at people that don't do endgame but say the game is 'too easy'.

I will never not be fascinated with how we, as a community, will call this game too easy in one breath then moan about how nobody can seem to do anything right or clear content in the next.

I'm pretty sure what actually happened is that somebody called his wife out in chat and her reaction was to turn off the chat so she doesn't have to see when people call her out for being bad. I have never heard of anyone disabling chat in an MMO because they thought it wasn't "necessary". Even if you don't "need" it, it's nice to be able to talk to other players. It is a game you play with other people after all.

Mandatory voice chat is a horrendous idea. It'll never happen. Besides being a terrible idea in general, the overwhelming majority of the JP player base is opposed to it. Pretty sure most of the player base in general would hate it, given that anyone who wants voice chat has tons of options already.
