What dungeon was that?

Steps of faith for me, I forgot what dungeon he was waiting on. I was doing doing it after reset, not that I planned that because of the roulettes it just happened to be at that time. Still took me an hour for steps of faith, three times (due to people not following directions, ugh).

And what do you base that assertion on? The Expansion is NOT standalone, it's a STORY expansion, so of course you need to finish the previous story. This is not WoW.

Why does everyone bring up WoW as if WoW is the only MMO in history? I'm basing this off of every MMO I've played and I've played almost everyone out NA, RU,JP and KR servers/games included. Every MMO has a story, every single one, so using "story" isn't a good excuse. Not everyone cares about story and it shouldn't be forced. Because guess what? Those don't care don't read it and in the end still have zero clue what's going on.

None of that has anything to do with the fact that the story does not have to be forced. This is an MMO, not a single player rpg, every MMO has story, every MMO has lore, not every MMO forces you to talk to every NPC. WoW, the game that every likes to bring up for some reason, did not force lore and had at one point 12million subs. I think it's safe to say that the game won't die if you don't force quests. Believe it or not, not everyone plays MMOs for the story *shrugs*

People that like reading the story quests can while people that don't aren't forced too, everyone is happy.

Again, why should the game change for you? How are you going to access anything without your single player content? Like i said before, everything is bound to single player story and trying to make it all unlock on it's own is a huge amount of time (based on how loosely all the systems are connected in this game)
Like it or not, this game is a single player as well as an mmo. If you don't like that aspect you don't like over half the game and as such should go to other games instead.

Actually its an MMO that is very storyline based, that's the role they(SE) want to fill, and yes if people don't like it, they can find a game better suited to them. Not every game is perfect for everyone, and it shouldn't even be tried, thats how you end up with watered down crap for games. I agree with SEs decision to make the game this way fully.

There really should go off some bells if you are playing through the game and notice that EVERYTHING is locked behind your main story.
SE saids you WILL care about your story, it's that simple.

K, lets bring up Final Fantasy XI, Another MMO mind you that the main focus is Story content, if you didn't read it or anything then the game was not to the players liking. FFXIV follows the same concept of a story focused life style with more non-PvE content than its predecessor. But what I am generally saying is, players in FFXIV that don't enjoy the game's story, bypassing where possible, tend to moan about minuscule stuff moreso than the others that do enjoy the story.
