What do you say to get your friends to play?

"This game is only 15-20 bucks right now man! And it's on indefinate free trial! WHY NOT??"

But what else would you say to someone to try and get them to check the game out?

"They're really making good progress and its fun to see where the game is going."

or

"DUDE you can TOTALLY play as a hot catgirl in nothing but a bikini ALL DAY ERRY DAY"

or even

"THERE'S PRETTY GRAPHICS AND VOICE ACTING AND CUTE SQUIRRELS EVERYWHERRRE"

Would you mix it with caution?

"Yeah I'd try it out, but be prepared for a really ack-basswords registration process"

"DO NOT PLAY WITH A KEYBOARD OMG. GET A CONTROLLER"

"It's like Final Fantasy XI without all the distracting stuff like actual content."

Or would you even bother?

"Yeah I'm just playing it to see where it's going, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone."

If they liked XI and want something other then mainstream WoW clones:

I tell people what it is now, what is has been changed since release, and what is being change in patches 1.19,1.20, and the little we know about 1.21.

IF they hated XI and want a mainstream experience I tell them to play WoW or wait for GW2.

stay or come back?

I've tried to get some who bought into it at release to come back but so far no one has the slightest interest in it. some reasons I've heard:
- FF in name only, doesn't have anymore story to it than other fantasy mmos
- s--ty UI
- controller design holds back keyboard players
- game is still slow
- boring gameplay and classes
- no PVP, AH, transportation, end game activities, mail system, regional servers
- stale environment (one guy said it was like playing in a box with wallpaper)
- SE still an arrogant company that doesn't listen to players
- ffxiv still in beta

Even after one of my local friends hopped on my char for a bit to run around (while i was on CoD lol) said it 'looked ok but had nothing interesting about it and no flavor at all'

Now, IMO yeah they made valid points and i understand where they're coming from. No one cared that it was still F2P and no one wants to pick it up / return. IMO i don't think people will come back. I think people who have stayed will continue, hoping for he game to get better, but anyone who left early on (for whatever reason) will probably still see enough reason to choose other games. IMO SE needs to realize this isn't 2001, people have options and higher expectations.

I just told them to come play with me when the game first came out... and they did. They are also still here.

I really just keep them updated with what's going on.
My friend who played XI with me is really interested in the Materia system.

I would just show them the game at my house and let them try it. If they like it they would go and buy it if not then w/e. That how i got many people to try out ffxi and play it if there a really hardcore wow player i wont even try to get them in FFXI/FFXIV there mind set of gameplay and how to play a mmo is not the same. Trust me i try they wont even think about trying any of the two.

I recommend starting now. By the time they get up to level, chocobos and airships will be released.
By the time they get to max level, hopefully there will be more things to do.

The game is not terrible anymore. People just love to hate.

I would feel embarassed recommending this game to anyone I know as it would only make me look bad... Maybe after a few more patches?
