No its not, you just go to the correct ward and type it is, for example you want Chocobo Feathers, you select Clothiers Ward, then Feather and select Chocobo Feather, it then shows you every retainer and which ward they in! Then the quest begins. Till you can come back and re-initiate the quest.

And yea, I figure, by improving the MW they will be actually improving it. Eventually to the point where it's just like an AH, but better (few more patches I guess, or as many as it takes, and then some). And MW will then no longer have negative terminology, and by 2013 everyone will be like 'Does WoW have a MW? Ewwww, what's an AH?'... I think that's what Yoshi is striving for.
trust me it'll never catch on.... yoshi needs to strive for something else lol

I'm not sure if you're explaining the system to me, or defending it? The former isn't necessary, and the latter is just silly.

Why is there a TYPE of material submenu? What if you don't know what the name of the specific category you're looking for is? We're talking about a brand spanking new player that's starting up the game. FFXI's auction house didn't require an FAQ. "OHhh I get it, so Clothcraft, Leathercraft, Armor, Weapons, and you can sort them by equippable level".

And the multiple tiers of levels, lower middle and upper. Pointless. Put it all in 1 menu and have it sortable by level or stats! We've had that system before in a previous SE MMO incarnation and it worked!

Every submenu you add to FFXIV is another 3-5 second delay. My point in saying "If you luck out and find it" is that hopefully the person doesn't eventually give up and just find an NPC that sells something like what they're looking for.

If you don't think new summoner is better, you're playing the wrong game.

Market Wards should be deleted from the game for the simple reason that they try to make a sandbox system (i.e. Retainers) function in a way that it wasn't natively meant to function.

Then again it's probably too late to expect them to properly refine and fix any of the truly new and promising concepts they originally had in mind, let alone try anything new again.

Edit - The funnest phase of the Market Wards search "quest" is alt+tabbing to research what kind of material class an obscure item belongs to, only to find that the game has crashed and you must reconfigure the game to function in the ever-immersive "window mode" so that you may then properly complete the initial search.

New is good. SE has been an innovator as long as I've been a fan of theirs. It's just like the last 5 years or so they've had a bunch of manatees with thought bubble balloons selecting their approach to anything they add or create.

Yes, but they seem to have this uncanny thing for trying to re define already perfectly working systems and break them up to the point of no return. That and SE is so amazingly pridefull that they just cannot let go of this system that they created, admit it's failure, and just scrap it and make something that works.

@Abriael: Maybe if they optimize the system successfully, I wont complain. But I just don't see it happening. But your basically saying that Draco is a liar and all I can see is that you must live in a fantasy world where time passes faster than on planet earth. If I didn't know any better I could swear its blind fan boyism, but that can't be true. I often disagree with your posts, but its usually not because I think you are blindly white knighting. Its usually just fundamentally disagreeing with your Point of view and the way you think the game should be. In this case though, I dont know what you are talking about. I fully support Draco on this issue, as I don't see it as only being a philosophical or aesthetic issue (though part of me does think its a useless system thrown out there for purely to pacify RPers). So I see your on a different server than me..... is that the difference? You just happen to be on the one server where the market ward isnt like 10x slower than a broker system would be? For one thing, EVERY second that I am being slowed down for no good reason is precious time lost to me forever. However, if they do manage to optimize the system and make it faster then for the most part I could live with the system. BUT not when I get trapped in loading hell everytime I go to the MWs, and God help me if I need to get more than 1 item. Trust me bro, I'm not making this shit up just to be a troll. So you say its fast and not that much worse than a broker system? I guess I have to take you at your word. So take me at mine. Most of the system while I still find annoying isnt that bad in the speed department, but its gotten so bad that I fear everytime I have to go into the MWs due to the insanely long loading sequences I have to endure.

Market wards are not new, they are and outdated idea, like everything else at release of this game was/is really.

Bazaar system is not new. Sorry guy.

And even if it was, not everything that's new is good. You don't reinvent the wheel.

    Market wards are terrible.
They're basically as close to an auction house as they can get without having any of the convenience or advantages of an auction house, while at the same time having no positive aspects over one.

The item search feature is essentially an AH already, only with a bunch of loading time slapped onto it and no price history. The lack of price history is itself a major problem because nobody has any clue what anything is worth, so you get things like... twelve people selling maple longbows for 120k(in the same zone as an npc that sells them for 115k, derp) because that's the only price they have on hand to base it off of.
Specific wards separated by category are useless because A. item search negates the need for this and B. most things are in the wrong wards anyways because you can't set up shop in several wards at once.

I also like how you can open the window to browse a shop from about ten times farther away than the distance you can actually purchase things at, and how you are rendered completely immobile while it's open so you have to exit out of everything to get closer. Real nice system there.

    So, in summary:
    ENTIRE ECONOMY IS ROLANBERRY FIELDS
