If you look at the copyright is say's 2010-2015 that would mean 5 more years. But, if Yoshi-P was talking about 2.0 then that is roughly 8 years.

I believe he was talking about it ff14 overall. But tbh the thing that gives me the MOSt confidence in fF14's longevity is the fact that FF11( which is not as successful as ff14) last what almost a decade - hell its up and running now ( with updates too). So thats why I can confidently send 12.99 per month - cheap entertainment, well worth it, and good investment.

As much as I love the game, I honestly don't feel like it has any longevity. And I think one of the main reasons (not the only reason, but one of the main reasons) the game hasn't died yet is simply the fact that it is a Final Fantasy title.

I do want to see the game succeed and last a good decade but in order to do that, the dev team has to stop catering to the new 'mobile' generation of gamers who want microtransactions, everything on a plate etc. Going the safe route constantly makes for boring gameplay.

As an earlier poster said: FFXIV is a themepark, and it really is. There's no one thing that stands out and makes it special, no remarkable feature that sets it out from the others... it just is. And it will be until the next decent themepark rolls around, unless it makes itself stand out from the crowd somehow .

I think that whether the mmo market may be going downhill or maybe just in a temporary slump, the more successful games should be able to stick it out for a good while at least. And XIV does have a pretty good fanbase and is a solid game, so I don't think it's going anywhere for a while. Besides, no one really can say what the future holds anyways. I think we're good for a few years.

I honestly don't see FFXIV lasting much longer than 2 years. It's been 2 years since ARR and they just released their new expansion and guess what, they didn't do anything innovative. I think Yoshi P is afraid to try new things cause he's afraid of the bads, unhelpables, and wewants that make the majority of the player base.

Maybe we could see more innovation after ps3 support is dropped because they've already said they are limited to what they can do right now because of the ps3

Um... copyrights can only be claimed up to that days date. In effect you cant copyright something you havnt made yet. So the dates are irrelevant to how long ffxiv will last.

I would absolutely love FFXIV to last for many years, though in my honest opinion i feel it lacks that longevity FFXI had (has) because it tries too hard to please gamers from other franchises. It doesnt draw you in and soak you in that unique FF experience (altho HW did do better than ARR). The feeling of it being a RPG is lost entirely to same rotation of skills in every encounter so theres no requirement to think and absorb what some of these beautiful dungeons could potentialy have offered. I do hope though that Yoshi can bring some if that magic back and I will be a subscriber til the curtains close.

We had that same line brought to us in FFXI, but back then it was 'PS2 limitations'.

That still didn't stop them from making a pretty fleshed-out game, with oodles of things to do that didn't revolve around "You got your 450 tomes this week? welp, see you tuesday! "

As long as they are not shutting down Servers and merging them you are on the safe side. Once that happens there is no need to panick too.

XI halved the amount of Servers in 2009 after 7 years of service and at this point they still have 17(!) Server up and running because people keep playing. To be fair, they dropped the german and french language support because it wasnt bringing in enough money anymore, but hey. JP and E are still available, Updates are still rolling out and the story still continues. That's at this point now 13 years of service. 4 Major Expansion packs and a ton of new content after mini expansions that did cots 9,99 at the time of release.

So, i wouldnt be THAT worried even if some disgruntled customer comes along with "this game is stuck and nothing changed so it still sucks" - for everyone with that attitude there is one addicted player out there that will keep playing and paying so i give this game at least until 2023, if not more

Yep, but the last major update for 11 will be in November, after that it'll just be bug fixes.
