I am a huge final Fantasy fan in general. Also Square Enix. Throw in the fact that I love to play MMO games makes it a no brainer. I also stopped playing a bit after launch due to the state of the game, but Id have to say the improvements not only make the game playable buy enjoyable. Its also exciting to see new changes on the horizon.
Nothing in particular to the game stood out, the graphics look great and I like the realism to the characters and world. Well yeah I know cat people don't exist, but you get my point. I have played FFXI of course and this game improves greatly on many aspects.
I love the challenge too, after getting wiped on my first glad guild mark levquest I knew I had to go back to the drawing board with some new gear and maybe a couple levels.
Keep it up Square lets turn this thing around!
I signed up for alpha way back when because my boyfriend and friends were going to, and were all convinced 14 was going to be great, they all wanted to leave 11 for it when it was ready etc I actually wanted to stay on 11, was very unhappy with the announcement of 14, but didnt want to be left behind so signed up and we got in.
After going through alpha-beta though, everyone else i signed up with decided they hated the game and I was the only one who wanted to keep playing (Mostly, I just wanted to stick with it to be able to get to gridania, since we could only choose LL back then) but didnt bother buying the game when none of my other friends wanted to play. My boyfriend and I bought it just recently and getting back into it, what we both love about it now is the DoL/DoH classes. They feel pretty relaxing and fun/different after doing events in 11 all day
Well one, because I have always enjoyed the games that SE has released for the most part and I had been following the game since it was code named 'Rapture'.
Also the fact that it wasn't like every other MMO that was out there, nor did it try to clone popular MMO's and become a reskinned slightly different version of other MMOs. You know, those MMos that feel exactly the same and you can basically play a brand new game that just came out 5 minutes into starting because you KNOW the game even if it's new.
Is it still there... not really. I feel that, while it isn't a bad thing to listen to your fans, SE listened a bit too much and started trying to make a game to please others instead of just MAKING a game. I feel much time and development was wasted on silly things that weren't needed, or at least not needed at this time.
Such as:: Yes lets remove AoE toggle because a few are complaining so that's obviously important, but let's leave all the linkshells without any acceptable administration options even though EVERYONE is complaining about it and people have to constantly reshell.
While it does still have a bit of it's own feel, it's obvious that they are pulling a lot from FFXI and that it's basically becoming FFXI 2.0 with some slight differences. I still enjoy the game, and will play it as long as I can enjoy it but I hope they don't make it a 100% FFXI clone. I played that game for YEARS upon YEARS, I'm ready for something different.
I'm just a bun boy, doing bun boy things.
I playing because it's Final Fantasy XIV and playing FFXI for 6years i said if it anything or at least have great storyline like FFXI why not? I still have high hope for this game so this is why i'm still here tho it not giving me the same feeling as ffxi did but then i again i was 13 year old and thought FFXI was the best game ever![]()

The Final Fantasy brand name, the fact that I didn't play XI and I was bored.
Was it because you loved FFXI and hoped this would be better?
kinda, i played ffxi for 7 years. the thing i hate about it the most is the money or earing it.
i loved everything else about it.
its just 7 years is 7 years time for something new.
i stoped playing when it stoped being fun.
i quit ffxi 4 or 5 times.
well it just so happens a new FF MMO game perfect!
OCD?
Since I've began playing the FF games, I've always wanted to say "I've played them all". With the release of FFXI and FFX-2 the statement changed to "I've played them all (the numbered) except the online and sequel ones".
At some point I decided to play FFXI, and made a vow to only pay the game + 2 months (about a full priced single player game), but then saw XIV as a challenge to my somewhat new computer and it was also free for the time being.
So here I am. It's been like 3 months, and I haven't played in about 10 days. I still like the game, is just that without a LS the fun factor is really small for me.
What attracted me was the Final Fantasy world. I wanted to play as a standard FF Lancer (Dragoon) with the "Jump" ability and a pet dragon that shoots globs of explosive lava. Maybe I was hoping for too much.
Why do I keep playing? I have hope that one day I will see the things I expected to see, the game is free, and I have no other MMOs to play. All other MMOs out today have no potential. FFXIV always had potential from the beginning.
But... new MMOs are going to release soon. I can't say if I'll stay for some small hope once SWTOR launches. Definitely won't be around when GW2 comes out unless the game drastically improves.
I started playing because I loved FFXI and hoped this would be better.
Now I play because, while it didn't live up to my original expectations in any way, I see yet unfulfilled potential for this game to be extraordinary, I enjoy playing with the friends who remain, and I have no reason NOT to play at this point.
