Turning DRK into a tank was a huge mistake.

I didn't even have to finish the first page of this thread before I found the worlds I wanted "Because that's how FFXI had it". Personally I have continued to decry people who want the classes and jobs that XI has, and the way they have them set because ultimately this is XIV, not XI reborn.

Pet peeve aside, I have also seen a lot of squishy DRK, which made me wary of playing one, but now I play one, I realise that at lower levels we don't have the full round of mitigation tools that high levels have. I also feel that DRK is a tanking class that requires full player attention, not just a case of switching off and doing 1-2-3 rotations and watching for a big hit to mitigate through. It is a class where every hit needs to be watched to ensure we haven't left ourselves too open or we aren't overly compensating and leaving ourselves nothing to mitigate the truly big hits.

I main pld tank and always favored going pure vit on gear and stats. Mostly because I have stoneskin on my hotbar that I'm not afraid to use on myself (or even other party members). And more hp = better stoneskin on myself. Which especially comes in handy during times that I don't have any good defensive cooldowns up. Or during moments of downtime.

I do however see str accesories more beneficial for Warrior tanks. Considering their entire play is on hp absorbtion. I don't know anything about DRK for the moment to give an opinion.

I have no issues with equipping str gear on pld if people ask me too. But I'll never do it myself. The way I see it, I'm there to tank everything and stay alive. And I've also gotten to the point that I keep an eye on the entire party. Tossing an occasional stoneskin or cure on other party members to help them.

I'll leave dps to the dps. Obviously, I'll put all I have in helping on that part. Like I already do with supporting the entire party with my stoneskins and cures. (keep forgetting the pld magic name)

Don't get the whole str and vit thing. I run all vit I do content fine, I assume square factors in tanks wearing fending than slaying.

In the grand scheme of things tanks don't do enough dps to make THAT much of a difference anyway even wearing strength. So I will stick to VIT, in my opinion my job is to stay alive for as long as possible and to take as many punches as possible. Personally I hope that square kill's this whole str business in future content.

Tanking and healing much lower in the player count than DPS. SE thinks to themselves, "How can we get more people to play a tank?". The answer was, take a job that everyone and their mother wants to play, and make it a tank. Results seem in their favor. I see lots and lots of DRK's out there, low level and high. Mission accomplished.

Also, DRK can be interpreted in many ways. It is not set in stone what their defining role is.

Just did a NR run with Me, DRK, MCH and a SMN.
Best run I had since I played 3.0 and best run I had in a long time.
DRK did pretty much smallish pulls, which allowed me to pop some DPS here and there. I'm about sick of these pulls that are so huge that strains me and the DPS.
So whattaknow, there are some really good ones out there.

This ^ When I am healing, I really hate the gigantic pull the whole dungeon at once runs that stresses me out to keep the tank up and dps that get caught in the fallout, not to mention the extra time in the dungeon when we wipe. When I level my DRK, I keep this in mind and I don't pull the whole room and the healers I've run with have appreciated that. Now if we can get the numerous loldrgs and 'I wanna be a puller' bards who feel we arent going fast enough to stop pulling mobs ahead of me, I will be happy lol. I have to say DRK is the first tanking class that actually has me looking forward to tanking.

There is no mistake about it, it’s a great tank class this coming from someone who only plays tanks. You may be seeing a lot of bad players right now since the Drk is their first tank and they do not have cross class tank cool downs (They really do help level all the tank classes to at least level 20 please)

A “Dark” class that tanks has been in MMO’s for a long time, see AoC Dark Templar, WoW Death Knight, ETC.

Also having a tank that is more appealing to the masses may get more people to actualy try to tank and learn how to tank so please bear with them and help train them, more tanks is always better for everyone all around.

Well maybe it should have been XI reborn, but you wouldnt like that. Although you have no problems with it being World of Warcraft Final fantasy skin edition reborn.

You know I meant the Final Fantasy series in general and not specifically FFXIV, right? Was saying that DRK has been presented in different forms and roles throughout the Final Fantasy series and someone saying they cannot be a tank class is not an accurate statement.
