Like, I just simply don't understand its purpose. It's especially annoying when you have FC members who aren't willing to at least spend 1-2 minutes of their time to serve as advancement fodder.

Because its FC crafting, not solo crafting?

Newer players to MMO games will likely draw from their experiences playing FPS games, GTA, Dragon Age, Skyrim, etc.. and they will evaluate a MMO based on that criteria. But other online games (and offline RPGs) are designed to be picked up, played for maybe 5 months and then abandoned for when the next big game comes along. A Veteran MMO gamer knows that the experience of the game is stretched out over years, and if crafted properly, it leaves players with some of the best gaming experiences to be found anywhere. This is the problem most content is solo and you get your group action from a cross-server queueing tool. This is not like older MMOs where servers developed real communities. It's more like MacDonald's Drive-Thru, where you queue up, do your run, then never meet those people again.

Yeah, they need to get rid of this.

I'd honestly like it more if they made said members do something instead of watching me finish. I mean, I am not adverse to the party mechanic, but when you literally just need three warm bodies to finish with no real context, it just becomes silly.

You know, you CAN ask others to do things. We usually split our work between 3-4 people - they get exp for turning stuff in, after all. The person who can handle the lowest level stuff does so, then it filters up from there with the 50+ blacksmiths handling the darksteel ingots.
Much more exciting to have it all filled up and then have the leader press the button that way.

I know. And I do! Other people in the FC actually want to help out, because I like my FC members. Doesn't mean some steps haven't been, and most people's experiences haven't been, "Get the boys in here to watch me press the button". It's underwhelming. You know, you CAN ask others to do things. It is silly that they are just there to stand by and watch while 1 person does most or all of the work.
You don't even have to press buttons or anything.

i personally i dont because i see a return on the items, now it would be different if could send my retainer as deckhand and when the airship returns it brings me loot or something that would be group thing, like the more retainers the ship as the better the overall loot the ship gets with retainers bring back something for those sent theres. the fc still get there loot from the ship
