Blue Mage? After the comment about it working similarly to cross-class abilities, I had an idea about how the "learned abilities" thing could work.
Blue Mage could get both fixed abilities it gets no matter what, as well as "free form" ability "slots", which are used to slot learned abilities. Like cross-class abilities, players could slot whatever learned abilities they've unlocked for each "slot", with a catch. Each "slot" ability has a particular function tied to it, so players can only slot abilities learnt with a matching function. (For example, only melee DoT abilities could go in a melee DoT slot.)
In a way, this might be rather similar to a "pet glamour" system I heard might be coming to allow Summoners more Egis.
As for jobs I'd love to see in a new expansion, I would LOVE to see Jobs of Garlean origin, should SquareEnix ever make a Garlemald focused/involved expansion. For example a Soldier job which uses gunblades, like the more elite Garlean troops seen at some points in the main quest. Or one specialized in the use of magitek armor (which would have to be small scale to work, I think).
A lore based explanation for Garlean-based jobs being available to people of Eorzea is relatively easy, as there are already examples of Garlean rebels or dissenters such as the Garlond Ironworks and a new character whose name I won't reveal due to spoilers. Garlean military training could very well potentially be brought to Eorzea by traitors, each for one reason or another.
I would like to see a witch with ritual spells or a ritualist or cultist
add witch with a broom as a weapon lol
Considering Blue Mage's entire schtick revolves around getting hit by monster attacks to be able to use them, I figure that BLU would work best as a tank.
For main tanking, give it a skill where it does damage based on the potency of the last move to hit it, with a different animation and secondary effect based on the damage type itself. Perhaps give them the ability to "store" these effects for later use in a fight, like AST's card mechanics.
I could actually see Blue Mage being the first variable role Job, depending on what abilities it has equipped. However, it would need a way of working for parties if they did use that.

Beast Master - melee DPS, uses 1H 1xe and shield, can pick among a set stable of pets (similar to summoner). Cross class: Lancer and Marauder.
Red Mage - melee DPS, lots of en-spells to augment their attacks (hey SE! let's have an elemental wheel like ffxi !), weak heals and combat raise (a la summoner), remove enemy buffs, and some form of refresh for utility. Basically, like ffxi, jack of all trades, master of none. Cross class: White Mage and Black Mage.
Samurai - as was previously stated, a tank job that can perform various actions after parrying or dodging enemy attacks. It should have something on a longer cooldown (2-3 minutes?) with an insane amount of haste or skill speed for spike damage / enmity grab, with the downside of burning through TP rather quickly because of it. Cross Class: Gladiator and Marauder.
Why does everyone want Samurai to be a tank? We already have a two 2 handed tank classes already. Let it be a dps class instead.
I wouldn't mind seeing another pet class.
Puppet master would be cool, if done right.
Have a few different automatons that dps or tank.
A blue mage strikes me as more of a dps/support class than tank class.
As for "we don't need another 2handed sword tank job," well, it'd be a wasted tank job if it went dps.
A samurai could dual wield katanas. Not the huge ones, but reasonably sized ones.
Red mage as a tank somehow incorporating the fact that it's a 1/3 black mage 1/3 white mage and 1/3 fighter. such as some sort of sheilding/weak HoTs from white. some sort of damage stance with black and damage mitigation being incorporated via Its fighter stuff?
