:sigh:
The majority of replies are in the all too typical "attack and belittle first, think and reaon never" category.
I'm not sure what is worse, the fact that so few people stopped to think, or that so very, very many of you concluded that because I was posting to complain that this new vanity set is too hard to obtain, that I was also demanding it be handed out for next to nothing. That's a pretty stupid assumption to make. All the insults and assumptions about why I posted, and what I think were based on little more than a single unwarranted assumption and conclusion.
So many of you appear to be convinced that if someone complains about something, then the only alternative is the opposite situation. I did not ask for the outfit to be given out, or sold at a vendor, nor did I suggest it should be made a lvl 1 craft. I compared this to the situation that existed with the swimsuits gated behing very high fishing and Cul desynth requirements. Yoshida-san specifically adrressed that issue before and went as far as to say that they understood it was a problem, was too difficult/rare and they would avoid doing anything similar in future, and yet here we are, again.
Actually my personal suggestion would have been to gate the outfit behind a dungeon drop and the specialization system, hardly asking for it to be handed out is it? I have to say that responding to someone by telling them to go do it themself (as many posters inthis topic have) is nothing more than an attempt to incite a response. Practically speaking this vanity item will be out of the reach of the vast majority of players for a decently long time. Personally, for an item that has no performance impact on our jobs, I think that is ludicrous. But then in a game where the developer apparently thinks it's OK for less than 1% the players to be able to participate in so-called player housing; why should I be surprised that the same vanishingly small number of players also have the opportunity to corner the market in rare items, and suck in even more gil? We thought the monetarists were in Uldah, seems like we have a pretty good merchant class running the show in Eorzea at large.
The point about Gil selling and RMT was simply that the creation a highly desirable item that commands high prices creates an incentive for some players to become involved in Gil purchases - just as some are tempted to buy gil to buy runs, or during the great housing farce, to buy one of the infinitessimal number of available houses.
The point of the topic is not, and was not to demand that the Thavnairian set be made stupidly easy to get. On one hand, I wanted to draw attention to the fact that they had effectively repeated the mistakes of the swimsuits befor, but that it's actually worse this time, and that might draw some into RMT. On the other I wanted to point out that the difficulty of obtaining the mats, skills, levels and gear needed to make this item puts it beyond the reach of the vast majority of players. The high level crafters and leading raiders are the exceptional players in this game, they are not the normal, average, ordinary player; unlike the vast majority of paying subscribers to this game.
Complaining about excessive difficulty is not the same as demanding any dificulty be scrapped to make things easy. The difficulty could be eased without making the item suddenly worthless, so all you merchant princes will be safe within your full coffers of gil. Easing it just a little would allow more players to participate in the content, and also allow more players to purchase the set at 'reasonable' prices.
However, you'll all choose to read whatever you want in to my post, more things that are not there, and the react by throwing further insult and assumption at me.
