Compare that to say PSO2 where the gun classes get full 3rd-person shooter type gameplay and that holds my interest a lot more. I may still pick up GW2 but it's likely not going to be my main focus. Again, opinion that I'm entitled to.
You obviously have to dodge a lot as a ranged class, especially since GW2 utilizes active dodging. Ranged classes tend to be squishy. Ever notice how it's a good idea to have a lot of agility/dexterity (depending on game) for ranged classes in MMOs? You need to avoid crap. GW2's way of doing that is getting you... GASP!!!!.... actually involved in combat. Shocking, I know.

Also, at least GW2 even has a gun class. FFXIV has musketeers, and even a guild for them... but they didn't even launch with the game. The heck is that? I'll tell you what: bad development.

Just because my opinion differs from yours doesn't mean you can look down on me like some naive little punk. Quit being so damn condescending and maybe your argument would come across better.
Defensive, much? I can have an opinion too. Mine just happens to anger you. :3

Rift may not have been much competition but people still claimed it would kill this game and guess what? It hardly bothered it. GW2 and SW:TOR are probably decent games but they're not going to kill FFXIV. MMOs tend to not kill each other, but they do fail on their own merit or lack thereof.
I've never seen anybody claim Rift would kill anything. Me, personally? I played the rift beta for 20 mins and saw it was WoW 2.0. Fighting fire with fire doesn't work in the MMO industry, which is why Rift never thrived. You have to create completely different and innovative games in order to survive that industry. FFXIV didn't survive because it failed to bring anything new to the table, and in fact brought less than even a mundane MMO like Rift brought.

I can almost guarantee you FFXIV will suffer a gigantic blow from GW2. Every MMO will. I will agree that most MMOs don't "die" from competition, but FFXIV is barely hanging by a thread as is. There's no way it's going to survive, unless the devs do some seriously drastic things to FFXIV and make it... you know... actually fun to play.

You say Active Dodging but from what I saw it was just running backwards at all times.

Every MMO will only suffer a gigantic blow from GW2 if they can pull off all the ideas they're talking about. If they can do it well, yes it will revolutionize MMOs. If they can't, as so many developers out there cannot, then it'll just end up as another MMO on the list.

FFXIV will live to see the day of PS3 launch and added races. SE wouldn't continue to fund fixing it if they didn't have confidence that it has the potential to be something great.

Though I must ask, what are you still doing here if you believe FFXIV has already failed? Why not just spend the rest of your time on the GW2 forums? I'll never understand people who stick around games they don't even like anymore.

Have you ever watched a session where someone who knew how to play did the demo? Quite a different experience.
this one isn't a dev, but It's super detailed and gives you a good feel for things.

Btw, what you think you see isn't what's actually in the game. Active dodging has been in the demo since it was created. Active dodging can also mean running out of harms way... since it's active dodging. Whether you run or jump out of the way wont make a difference as long as it doesn't hit you. You, yourself, may not have to run backwards. But that's what worked for them.

As I said... They have been pulling it off if you bother to look at the gamescom footage, or even footage from last year. They're dominating all the polls, all the game press. GW2 is even dominating SWTOR in polls, which I wasn't expecting simply because of how big the Star Wars fanbase is.

FFXIV will live to see the day of PS3 launch and added races. SE wouldn't continue to fund fixing it if they didn't have confidence that it has the potential to be something great.
You sound so certain of this. lol
Nothing is for certain at this point. FFXIV's future is shaky, at best. And, SE would attempt to fix it considering how much money they dumped into this project. They want to at least attempt a fix before they throw it all away.

Also I'm pretty sure they aren't very confident in FFXIV, either. They just announced a new MMO.

Bad move. or, maybe a smart move considering their losses.

killing some time before I start working. I like seeing how people react. :3

Also, I'd like to provide constructive criticism for this game... as if the devs would listen, anyway.

Wada also said they are looking to maintain 2-3 MMOs simultaneously. They have not given up on XIV but they also do not guarantee support forever, reading between the lines. SE seems to be on wait and see mode for this title, as most of us are too. Hoping XIV finds it's feet but prepared that it won't.

Anyway this is getting off the original topic, yes?

Them announcing another MMO has nothing to do with their uncertainty about FFXIV. Given that SE is both a developer and a publisher they tend to have their names on tons of titles. As a publisher they will put out another MMO regardless of the state of their other current games. If SE were a smaller company then sure I could see it but they're not, they're huge.

Just because Activision releases more shooters than juts Call of Duty doesn't mean they have no faith in the franchise, they're just putting out more games. Blizzard's putting out a new MMO too despite the fact that WoW is probably still the most financially successful MMO in existence.

I'm not saying GW2 will be a bad game, it's just not looking SuperOMFGAmazing to me. I'll likely still pick it up but I'll only play it in my spare time.

Agreed. I just find it peculiar because they have not made a mainstream MMO in years outside of XI, and then they create XIV which is a rather obvious (but different) continuation of XI... and then outta the blue when XIV is failing miserably they say "OH GUESS WHAT GUYS new MMO AWYEAH".

For all I know it could be Wakfu, though. Apparently they might adopt it for an English adaptation. Or already did or something... forget.

    That was kinda my bad.

    Back on topic...

To people who are saying "muscular women aren't attractive"... I'm one of the many who will 100% roll a female galka if it ever happens. I really like strongish women. Gives them character apart from your usual frail princess-ey chicks. Besides, you saying they aren't attractive is your personal preference. I prefer ladies that look like they can actually fight crap. :3

Regarding the possibility of a one time race/gender change when the missing genders are added...
I have a more specific question, that hasn't been answered at all. Would be cool to see a community rep response on this.

Would a "one time" change be one time PER character, or one time altogether?
I have six characters and would like to change two of them.. :<
It will be a tough decision to choose which character to change if I can only do one.

I do hope it's one character that's been active prior to the new genders being released... if it's one time for the whole account, that would be very disappointing!

I actually like the idea of adding the missing genders since it adds more diversity to the game and I haven't read the lore of the game much but I loved how the Miqo'te where like a female only race? o_O

But if they make the males look awesome, I wouldn't mind at all.
