You obviously have to dodge a lot as a ranged class, especially since GW2 utilizes active dodging. Ranged classes tend to be squishy. Ever notice how it's a good idea to have a lot of agility/dexterity (depending on game) for ranged classes in MMOs? You need to avoid crap. GW2's way of doing that is getting you... GASP!!!!.... actually involved in combat. Shocking, I know.
Also, at least GW2 even has a gun class. FFXIV has musketeers, and even a guild for them... but they didn't even launch with the game. The heck is that? I'll tell you what: bad development.
Defensive, much? I can have an opinion too. Mine just happens to anger you. :3Just because my opinion differs from yours doesn't mean you can look down on me like some naive little punk. Quit being so damn condescending and maybe your argument would come across better.
I've never seen anybody claim Rift would kill anything. Me, personally? I played the rift beta for 20 mins and saw it was WoW 2.0. Fighting fire with fire doesn't work in the MMO industry, which is why Rift never thrived. You have to create completely different and innovative games in order to survive that industry. FFXIV didn't survive because it failed to bring anything new to the table, and in fact brought less than even a mundane MMO like Rift brought.Rift may not have been much competition but people still claimed it would kill this game and guess what? It hardly bothered it. GW2 and SW:TOR are probably decent games but they're not going to kill FFXIV. MMOs tend to not kill each other, but they do fail on their own merit or lack thereof.
I can almost guarantee you FFXIV will suffer a gigantic blow from GW2. Every MMO will. I will agree that most MMOs don't "die" from competition, but FFXIV is barely hanging by a thread as is. There's no way it's going to survive, unless the devs do some seriously drastic things to FFXIV and make it... you know... actually fun to play.
