Good explanation, overall I like the challenge so I think that I will continue with my warrior and DRK, it will be a nice change to guide the group instead of just follow up the tank.
Tanking is great..just make sure you want to put the extra time in to be good at it or it is not worth it and you will be frustrated constantly.

I will, =) it will be nice to be a tank that everybody can count on, I know I lack a lot of experience so I will practice a lot, currently Im running all the old dungeons and raids as practice to get use it to it.
This x1000Tanks get zero forgiveness.
DPS makes a mistake or fails a mechanic, it's lawlz no biggie. If a DPS screws up their rotation (BLM at zero MP, no AI3), no one will notice.
Healers get the benefit of the doubt, with exception to a few raids like Ifrit Ex for example, where the fundamental mechanic is placed exclusively on their shoulders.
But if a tank doesn't now the fight it's a Vote Abandon.
and if a tank makes a mistake -- everyone sees it.
Zero forgiveness.
It's why they added Tank exclusive mounts, trying to give incentive.
Tanks - in PUG environment - need very thick skins.
I personally enjoy tanking but as some people are saying a group's success is largely on a tanks shoulders and it's alot of pressure. That combined with the unforgiving nature of most groups makes tanking very unpopular.

That sounds bad but can you tell why you find it enjoyable? Just curiosity
There you have it: people are assholes that don't let newbs get a hold of tanking.
I see that a lot when someone is learning to tank and they always get a lot of flak for not doing so-and-so.
In my experience, things were a bit different. This is my first MMO and I chose to play marauder having no clue what tanking was, but I started playing during beta, so I had the opportunity to learn. And perhaps the most important bit I learned was that aggro managing, the essential of tanking, is a team work. Today, I still notice many people don't understand that when they attack/heal during a pull and don't know they need to get near me instead of running around like headless chickens.
He doesn't mind us conducting trials so close to his bazaar, so long as he's properly compensated... Yes, Portus, we pay him in sorcery-blasted bird flesh. - Cocobygo
It stresses some people out basically, either from mechanics and design to the communities behavior. Others just like the idea of killing things more than taking the hits, or they prefer the aesthetics of another class that isn't a knight in some form (I would count Warrior in this case as most gear is heavy armor more to what a knight would use than your stereotypical conan esque barbarian.)
Nothing else I would rather do than tank. Sure it can be stressful, alot of people don't want that. It takes a certain person to main a tank I think, a little bit of crazy combined with a right head is key. We have to be a little messed up to willingly accept this job.
