Mac's have never exactly been market leaders when it comes to games. They've always been labelled as trendy office computers for businesses rather than gaming systems. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it explains why the performance might not be up to scratch. When you use something for a task it was never really designed for, it's rarely as good at it.

Except Blizzard's games, and plenty of Steam games(even recent titles) run fine.

Ahh you must be thinking of the old Macs, the one with the power pc processor. Macs these days have Intel processors the same as PCs. They just used an old 32 bit wrapper for the game instead of making a native Mac client. So of course this won't work its best. I use my MBP as one of my main systems and i dare say some games actually work better on Mac then they do on PC.

But the advancements the programmer were saying were metal. If I get what he is saying is that Metal would provide a much better performance and ease of use. I believe they might actually be making a native client that will use Metal to its fullest and give the best performance overall.
