Oh that's it? No welcoming parade or celebration for helping to defend Ishgard?
I haven't gotten to 2.55 yet, but I have been told that there was a great battle in steps of faith and the aftermath was what made the Holy See open its gates to Ishgard for... only the battle participants. I say isn't that kind of underwhelming story wise or is there something I have yet to know?

Also, I was kinda wondering, you can play as Au Ra as a fresh new character right? Lore wise did they mention why Eorzea has suddenly gotten new peculiar looking horny people walking around their cities? When Yugiri came, she purposely covered her face and body (not the tail tho, and the horns still portruding) because her unusual appearance might draw unwanted unrest.

I haven't read through all the thread, and apologize if someone else has mentioned this already.
I know people like the new class and would like to jump to it right away without being gated by the MSQ. But regardless, you might still need to level up the other classes for their cross class skills. So maybe leveling those other classes via MSQ will help you when you are able to obtain the 3 new classes at Ishgard.

Hmm, I think I only speak for myself on this one...

If only MSQ wasn't so tedious and boring I would have no problems doing them. At the moment, MSQ feels more like a chore than actual enjoyable content, quite unimpressive for a supposed story driven MMO. I lost count how many times I had to do fetch quests porting cross country just to do another fetch for another npc. Some guys here mentioned "trimming the fat" off MSQ, require us to only do the quests that actually matter, and have the option to ignore those quests to simply appease some minor npc.

I myself got lagged way behind MSQ, because I was doing my daily dungeons, beast tribes, gold saucer, deliveries and unspoiled. That\\'s almost 2 hours everyday, and I only have just as much hours to play per day. I only did MSQ when I felt like it, as in I can actually get into the story they\\'re telling. Sadly, I now needed to go faster if I wanna catch up, and just follow the leader in dungeons and skip all cutscenes. That kinda defeats the immersion I was hoping to get from playing storymode.

I get this sentiment, I do. But I must ask this question. if you wanted to Catch up (to everyone else, im assuming) then what happened to make you drop the game and fall behind? I mean with what you have seen in 2.0-2.5 (ex all the EX Primals, all the dungeons and a ton more) being locked behind MSQs what made you think that Heavensward wouldn't be?

Even though I find some parts of the MSQ boring, I appreciated the pay off at the end and I (coming from playing other RPGS) know that I "just have to get through it". It's a way of "Gaming" Life.

Well, as an expansion I was hoping I could have at least gotten something if I did buy it right now even without having to finish MSQ. (Well, I did pay for the expansion so...) But then I got slammed by the hard truth and my hype instantly dropped, frustration set in. I didn't want to plow through MSQ with a "must rush through all this to get to heavensward" mindset, I won't enjoy that way.

Obviously, I wasn't hoping to do the dungeons and raids of 3.0. I just wanted to enter Ishgard, and maybe try out the new jobs, that's all. Seeing that buying the expansion serve no purpose for me at the moment, coupled with my subscription expiring the same week. I.... just had no incentive to play immediately. Maybe someday, I'll catch up, then maybe buy heavensward by then.

Friends of old who wanted to come back for the new classes will not because everything is gated, like, the WHOLE expansion. That is bad business. Wow, SWTOR, Ultima Online, Eve online, NEVER did this.
Good for those games but let me ask you why let someone who's say 40+ run around in a zone with lvl 50+ monsters and zero quest to grab? just to look around and say ooooooooooo keeping it locked up works and makes ppl play the story and work for things.

I cannot speak on Astro and Machinist, but I can imagine that if I were to just jump into the Dark Knight story quests with no previous context of 2.0 storyline then I would be incredibly lost.
This is only true because of the way they wrote the Dark Knight storyline. If they had placed the jobs outside of Ishgard to make them accessable, Dark Knight would have had a different story. Better? Worse? Who knows?

I'm in the camp that the new jobs should NOT have been gated along with the rest of the content. Players should have been free to play through the 2.x Main Scenario with AST, MCN, or DRK, just as they can with any of the base classes. The stories for these classes could well still have an Ishgard flavor to them (like Dragoon!) without depending on your accomplishments in the Main Scenario.

What's done is done, though, and I can only pray that walling off everything behind Main Scenario they way that they did doesn't discourage too many potential new players. Hopefully there will be many more expansions to come - but if future jobs also require completing all past expansions, I don't think it'll be long before even the most fervent defenders of the current status quo will start to wonder whether it was really wise...

I normally main the Archer-type class in MMOS; I tried Lancer here and ended up falling in love with it.

Play the game for the game as a whole, not because you think you MIGHT love this future thing that you haven't even tried.
So your logic is they should work even harder to find out they hate something later? Brilliant plan. Let em level it up while they enjoy the story? Nope. Let em grind out the story for 40+ hours THEN find out the thing they worked for they hate. That will blow over extremely well.

In fact, playing the game as a whole is what they are asking for. They want to play the game using a class that appeals to them.
