50% of the fun comes from your class/job/character for some people
even if that person enjoys the story he will rush through it and burn himself out and get annoyed by the billion of errandboy quests to get to the JOB he actualy ENJOYS playing and THEN the player will start enjoying the story because he finaly can immerse himself in the CHARACTER he plays !
and how people know if they will love the new JOBS oh plllls you know there are people that have establisted Opinions/stories abbout their character in MMOs that most of the time choose to play
like me Blood DK , DRK , Sith Warrior , Aatrox etcetc
and i enjoy them ALL when i saw DRK i allready know i will enjoy it i dont care if its UP or OP .
and im here FINALY enjoying the story and game thx to DRK.
but i almost burned myself out thx to all the neverending lvl50 errandboy MSQ chain that i did with my UTTERBORING Paladin.
they could easily Twist the story a litle to get the Jobs OUTSIDE of ishgard.

Limited and Exclusive content that gets removed from game is Wasted Content and Developer time in the long run.
Change my Mind. (You can't)
Unless you stopped questing when you were level 12 you are talking out your ass. The fact is they did the same exact thing with FFXI and look how long it has been around. All the other jobs in that game required you to be level 30 before you could even access the quests to unlock them. Then it took several other quests to get them done. Please stop with this notion that this simple decision that they did before in their other mmo is gonna somehow ruin this one.
Also as others have stated if you left this game before then you obviously are not gonna be staying around for long anyways.
This point was actually addressed, and they mentioned that it won't always be the case going forward that you'll have to clear the MSQ of every previous expansion + original game to get to the latest content, but they're doing it this time because it's the first expansion and designed to build directly off of the previous one. It's obvious that, over time, the previous content will become progressively easier to clear. It's already easier now with Story Quests giving double XP and the armory bonus being increased to 100% below level 50. In the future, that may increase even further, or they'll find other ways to streamline it. Either way, you still want to provide some sort of learning curve that helps people learn their chosen job/class and be ready for the more difficult/complex content that follows, but they're no doubt going to continue to make it easier to catch up over time.
I for one applaud SE's valiant effort to keep the casuals out of Ishgard.
Also, you don't have to care about the story to enjoy the game. I've skipped next to every cutscene there is and I absolutely love the game. I enjoy the combat system and the landscapes are visually appealing. The variety of classes and jobs and the amount of different things to do is lovely. The amount of whining done by the players isn't. Seriously, when you make your own multi billion dollar gaming franchise then you should come and offer up your opinions. Until then, they suck. Boohoo, I have to do some quests to get to something I want. Tell me more about your extensive MMORPG experience and wherein you didn't at some points have to do quests to accomplish things you wanted to.

Saying its bad business to start a new class after doing the MSQ is like saying its bad to be given a legendary pokemon after you've beaten the story in a pokemon game. its not bad business. its a reward
EDIT: Not only this but if anyone could enter Ishgard it would be hell at the moment. back before Ishgard in mor dhona my frame rate would drop from 60 (capped) to about 20 during busy periods. Ishgard would be so much worse
IDK man if this game should be so story strict when an Au ra race which is supposedly new, appear out of new, where able to start the same story quest from any of the starter cities in fact I'd expect different beginning stories for their ares/etc. Having more tanks and healers available to players at the start is nice. Im fine with some being required to get at a higher level but if you start playing this game all you got for tank is 2 classes and 1 healer class. with 4 or 5 dps classes... Not much variety at start. Not to mention cross class abilities is kinda lame. I want to be blm but I must do archer to get raging strikes or Swiftcast(BLM) if I want to be a White mage. Its kinda forcing me to play a class I don't want. When in fact a simple rename for the skill would be fine for each class. Play Marauder? Better get flash. Play Summoner better get Raging strikes. It sometimes doesn't take long but its an aggravating process.
One of the biggest complaints I have with this games Story is the lack of Variety to choose from. The 3 big cities barely offer anything different to it other than separate players for pvp. Its mostly the same set follow path. Want to fly on your chocobo? for Story reason you need to get Aether to understand the air currents. So by the time you get them all, your done with the majority of the quest in that area its only useful for traversing the area for hunting/fate parties/gathering
had to double post 1st was to long.
A legendary Pokemon generally is one of the strongest critters and its normally lv 50. Having something like that at the start against lv2-5 enemies is kinda...lame sauce So there is no reason to be given it until the end of the game or nearly. DRK/etc isn't gona be some huge advantage over other tank classes just better launch variety for newer players.Saying its bad business to start a new class after doing the MSQ is like saying its bad to be given a legendary pokemon after you've beaten the story in a pokemon game. its not bad business. its a reward
EDIT: Not only this but if anyone could enter Ishgard it would be hell at the moment. back before Ishgard in mor dhona my frame rate would drop from 60 (capped) to about 20 during busy periods. Ishgard would be so much worse
Its also not like Ishgard for story reasons cant decide lets be friends with the other nations and help them train other nations for Drk/etc. Or some lone DRK/etc decides to start teaching his ways that he learned from Ishgard to other nations.

Your friends had ample time to complete the MSQ before the release.
Please, people. Stop using the MSQ requirement as a reason why your nan, wife, dad, uncle, dog, won't be playing. They threw so many warnings prior to release. I swear, it's like people want Yoshida to visit their home to feed them the information directly.
If he didn't warn you, then I would understand.. but it's an FF game. Your friends played before, knew how the game uses the story to gate content, quick Google would of shown this to be the same for DRK. It didn't take many people long to catch up. They made it a joke to catch up.
