Heavensward from Square, main game from Steam.

I pre-ordered Heavensward straight from the Square Enix website but I bought the game on Steam. I got a code in an e-mail and even been charged the money on Paypal but my code does not work on the Mogstation.

Do I need to buy Heavensward from Steam instead for it to work? Will Square Enix be able to sort it out with the code or will I need to refund it and buy it from Steam?

Unfortunately if you own ARR on Steam you are locked to using only Steam for all future content and expansions on PC. It sucks but that's the way it is at the moment. Hopefully they'll find a way to sort this out but yeah you'll need to refund your purchase if you can and buy the expansion via Steam.

"Most" is the problem. I have thoroughly checked my e-mails and didn't get any warning. That and I rarely check the forums because I work 6 days a week and want to actually play the game when I get some spare time. Now if they DID e-mail me with this before purchase, during purchase and after purchase? I'd have got the message.

Its right there on the SE Store, maybe you should read the provided info when you make a purchase.

Agreed. I only use steam for free games with few exceptions. I'm not a PC gamer to begin with, but if there was a game I wanted on PC and it was available outside of Steam, then you can bet I wouldn't go through the steam store.....

On a side note, I've noticed that Steam also slowed down my computer start up until I set "auto log on" to off, because it starts checking for updates immediately, before even a few of my system apps that are offline entirely start to run. Not a big deal except for the fact that it has an update every other day it seems like.......

Everything they have posted in a variety of websites and in all interviews and things I have seen have all explicitly stated if you bought arr on steam you need to buy hw on steam. When I bought mine I double triple checked to be certain it was compatible. Even when you went onto the SE store you said you bought hw on they have this...

So out of all the posts, one of you gave me the answer I needed. You are all justifying, in 2015, a game that can't make a key work through the Mogstation to bind to your account? A successful company like Square Enix? I know you lot think this is an actual MMO that is challenging as opposed to a mindless time waster with Final Fantasy references and I had always wondered why until now. Now you see why I don't use these forums and use the Steam ones instead. There's an actual community of gamers over there.
