I would appreciate having the option of chat bubbles. If you don't want them you simply leave them turned off and can continue to monitor the chat box.

Then you hate the story? That is how the story is. I always thought of it being cool that its kind of like a comic book.I don't see the need.
I can see my chat box just fine. I can filter it through custom tabs if there's some other kinda spam going on.
If I wanted to look at a character talk because I'm zoomed up on them or something, their lips move when they say something! So the immersion aspect is there too.
Having bubbles pop up all over town sounds ...unappealing.
Although, I dislike the story itself a bit. In some ways, like it in other ways.
There's the main text box from NPCs in non-voiced cutscenes and such. But chat bubbles that some NPCs have are not the same thing. The story doesn't often use them.

I like this idea, NPC already have it, and I really liked this feature in Guild Wars 2.
