Now by design, this game doesn't support socializing well, nor do these forums. Maybe you all should ask Yoshida what's up with that.
If you're having difficulty being heard in your FC or LS, it might be time to find a new social group. Talking into a channel and expecting a reply every time is not entirely realistic. It might just be you have little in common with the group and they don't know how to respond to your messages. Gating yourself off by ignoring back is only going to make your experience worse.

I've been fortunate with the LS/FC I've joined in that they have a good sense of humor and common goals we share. It wasn't always like this, I had to find this for myself.

Not everyone is going to accept you and you shouldn't assume they will. Friendships are made by mutual likeness, they are not just people that you want to talk too and hope to be talked back.

The game isn't designed around being a very social experience in the first place. Modern MMOs tend to cater towards a "convenient" playstyle rather than a social one, so your average player is left with not much to show by the time they're 50. It's an incredibly flawed way to design a MMO, but it's the ironic reality we have.

How so? In what way have they made this game less social able? You as a player have a chat log, the ability to talk to others in several different ways. The forums and FC forums enable players to keep in touch. I'm not sure what all the flaws are that you mention.

Just get an FC with TS/Mumble. My guild's talking there daily. Anyway, you kinda have to look for it and not expect it to come to you as already mentioned.

Not the game's fault, just player mentality these days.

Non cross server communication, easily soloable content outside DF (which enforces non cross server communication), zerg encouraging events that end fast with no reason to keep the group together (GW2 was awful for this at launch, hunts in FFXIV are similar), inconvenience of PF vs DF, to name a few.

If they wanted to have DF, they should have really made cross server communication possible. Having DF while not having cross server communication strongly, and rightfully makes a lot of people feel like talking to people in it isn't worth it. The alternative, PF, would be great if it was the only way to get groups. People would have to be much more social.

Having both really discourages socializing on two fronts. People use DF for most things, and can't communicate cross server. If they could, it would encourage more socializing. If people only had PF to use, they'd be more social, but DF draws most people towards it instead.

Exactly. I was in a PF last night that took about fifteen minutes to fill. We all chatted it up in the meantime while we were waiting.

My experience has been that most people are happy to chat if someone starts talking. If everyone just sits around and waits for someone else to take the first step, of course you're going to have a silent group. There's nothing stopping anyone from saying "Hi, how are things going?" and getting a conversation rolling.

This! And when you enter into a dungeon, ask what is expected of you. That always sparks convo. Don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. Be the first person to speak up.

So you bring up two interesting items. One, world hunts that enforce zerg style combat and leave people to wonder what happened without a word. Two, DF hinders people ability to talk to each over cross server.

I don't know what server you play on(actually I do, Balmung), but I see relays for hunts all over the place. If I didn't know any better, that means people are talking. I have a couple LSs specifically for hunts and both of them are chatter boxes when hunting is in prime time. Even if the strats are not worth talking about all the time, there are some fights that require people to let others know what's going on. Meehas is one that comes to mind with silences.

As for DF, this can not be helped. They added this feature as to allow others to jump right in without the need of a party. Yes, a lot of people will go in a lone. But I know from personal experience there are players that jump into it together, be it a complete party or just a few. You can still talk to those people in the run, which I see often. If you like them a lot, go find them, which I see from time to time.

You make it out to be a flaw, but I see them as gateways to another channel of socializing. You can't expect that to come to you everytime. You have to make that happen for yourself.
