I think the class system makes it improbably difficult for them to be able to separate Scholar from Summoner. And they were essentially added due to Conjurer/ White Mage being the only healing class/job in the game. (Though, up until level 30, Conjurer remains the sole healer class.)

Sure would be nice if the two were separated though.
