If you confirm that the DoT is applied via Battle log and it's not showing on the mob info bar, then that would be a bug. (especially if you have the option to show only your debuffs) And I'm assuming you're in a normal battle and not one of those zerg hunt situations. Hehe... (in which Kaisha's reply applies in those cases of buff 31 - 60)
Yes i confirmed it, this is also something I've noticed as Bard while using Hawk's Eye(Increases DEX by 15% and guarantees that all attacks land.) and even with the UI option to only show my own debuffs on targets it still sometimes doesn't show.

Edit: and yes this only happens in the 24man raids and big zerg hunts. But still i find it silly to have a 31-60 cap on debuffs... this is something World of Warcraft solved 10 years ago in vanilla.

It's less stress on the server having to only send the first 30 active status effects to players while it deals with the rest internally, and it also let them side-step the issue that they probably only budgeted processing power for the first 30 to display on their lowest common denominator, the PS3.

The limit was raised from the original 30 back in 2.1. It's an annoyance, yes, but with the real lack of relevant alliance content with actual DPS checks it doesn't really matter currently in the grand scheme of things.

In those situations it doesn't really matter much. The problem is that there are far too many buffs/ debuffs that a target will likely have all the time and no suitable way to filter it. Mostly it doesn't matter since things either stack (every DOT effect), over-write with the most recent (most debuffs), or are irrelevant (most enfeeblements like slow, heavy, silence, etc.). Filtering to only show your own debuffs would work for most people most of the time, but there are situations where, for example, a WAR or NIN would want to be aware of the other one using their slashing resistance debuff, or BLMs looking for Foe's requiem, or some other synergistic debuffs.

I'd like to quickly point out, that using the option to "only show your own buffs/debuffs" option also applies when using a healer job and effects what you see on other players, meaning that you cant see what debuffs another player has on them and thus cant tell when you need to ensuna. So even though there is the option, its largely ignored in its current state by anyone who plays a healer job ^__^

Why does this happen, is it a known issue and is there a way to fix it?
You can tell how many of your dots actually landed by looking at how much damage your fester does!

    (yeah its bs i know)

I'm no healer, but that's only if you target a player, your party list will still show the debuffs... Then again, I'm mainly play DPS and only heal for some faster queues ^^

As for seeing your dots when having the option to only see your own dots/debuffs on a target... It doesn't help at all with the problem the OP has. If there are too many dots/debuffs on the target, you will not see your own dots/debuffs anyway.

I really hope they make some better options for this overall in the future, not only the amount of dots/debuffs that are shown, but also more options on what is important for you to see... I use the option to only see my own dots/debuffs, because I find it very annoying keeping track of what matters when there so many. But when you then do content in a group with other jobs that have same abilities or abilities in general that doesn't stack, you will have a hard time knowing when to reapply skills...

(cannot edit on phone) They disappear as if they're being overridden by someone else's DoT. For example, I'll throw in a Shadow Flare, Bio II, Miasma, Bio and then Miasma II and then with 15 some seconds left on Miasma, just that particular DoT will disappear. I try to re apply it immediately afterwards but can't. I only display my DoTs on-screen, so it's very obvious. Weird.

I'm curious: How is it known that 60 is the upper limit on the number of debuffs possible on a mob when only 30 are visible? I don't necessarily doubt that it's true, but I'm wondering how it was discovered?
