    A few loose thoughts:
    • We don't bother chatting with a fellow passenger on a 20 minute ride. But we most likely would chat with neighbors who'd be there for the next 20 years. Fast-food content makes for drive-through thinking.
    • "Paced progression" using weekly caps. It creates pressure to "get things done today", so it encourages efficient use of time, which doesn't go well with social interaction.
    • PS3 and PS4. Not everyone can text like Shining Finger
    • MMORPGs don't come with social interaction. Social interaction can only be provided by the players to each other. MMORPGs just provide a medium.
    • Burn out.
    • Expansions always cause people to get lazy.

In my opinion the game is as social as you make it. I usually chat a lot with my static, in my linkshells and also in shout in mor dhona, telling jokes and stuff. )

I've noticed it takes 1 person to start a conversation, but only if the other party is willing to respond. Was a quiet run in Haukke Manor today until one them mentioned they were surprised that I had every class at 50. After that the run started to get much more talkative with me talking to them and them responding.

See, I really disagree with this. ANY ps3/4 players who plays regularly will have a keyboard. The only people I've met who don't are people who have literally just bought the game.

But to OP, it really is just finding a good FC. There will be lots you don't click with, but don't give up and eventually you'll find one.

And that's the problem with DF.
The "gotta go fast" mentality. I had quite some time run because of random chatter in DF.
Took a bit but I had fun. Try and chat sometimes, may never meet the people again but you'll have memories.

Cross-server content doesn't have to be a bad thing. GW2 allows you to play and talk with any person on any server which is pretty awesome. XIV is hindered by the fact you cannot send /t's while in a raid/dungeon, and also that you can't talk to those super awesome players you just met from using DF after your run is done.

YOU have to be social. You can't expect the people to come to you. We see this from time to time in our FC. Someone quits because they never felt included when they themselves never spoke up in the FC and never made themselves a part of the community. MMOs are what you make of them. If you don't try then you don't get anything at all.

They can buy a keyboard. Just like every Pc player has so that's no excuse.

Modern MMOs are single player games with subscription fees attached. Looking forward to all that social anxiety at the HW premier : )

this. The game REWARDS socialization, but it does not REQUIRE it.
You know why? Because the games that required it hemorrhaged players when the better options came along.
Games that require socialization sound great on paper, and lead to very tight-knit communities, but they also become impenetrable to new players.
We all remember shooting the breeze with our old parties, but everyone conveniently forgets how long we had to wait to get into those parties.
