Is FFXIV a Casual or Hardcore Game? (Thinking About Player Expectations)

I agree with the people saying that there isn't a definite definition of casual and hardcore.

Casual is usually used as an insult by those who think themselves as being hardcore. For them, casual content is pretty much everything that they're not interested in, which is usually content that isn't technically difficult. So while Coil is hardcore content for them, getting a Zeta or Lucis to them is casual content.

For casual players, hardcore content is stuff that requires a large amount of time to complete. Coil is hardcore because you need to practice a lot and learn how to play better. But time-consuming activities like a Zeta and Lucis are hadrcore too for them.

People get mad about content nerfs because they don't get the chance to complete the content as it was originally designed and intended after the content gets nerfed.

I seriously doubt this is the case for most of the people complaining about content nerfs. Most of the people complaining just don't want the filthy casuals getting through the content.

This is strictly my opinion, but it's a extremely casual game. Even the raids are easy compared to other MMO's I've played.

Always funny that the forums are full of badasses that consider everything in the game to be easy.

So stating that in MY OPINION the game was casual and easy is trying to be a badass? Huh? The thread asked our opinions and I gave mine. I guess some people just have an inferiority complex. You're acting like I said it was fact and anyone who disagreed was a casual, which I didn't. I strictly said it was my opinion.

He's always like that lol. I feel like it's casual because the bits of hardcore content is like...1 thing...which is Coil...and even then it's like certain parts of Coil.
And owning a house that no one else can get because reasons...and the Bot/RMT's junk.
Game does try to cater to both sides of the grass though, I just like people who want HARDER stuff may be on the dry side...

From personal experience, the most complaining I've heard about nerfs has come from casual players who want to be able to challenge the (unaltered) hardcore content on their own time. "Casual" doesn't mean "has no skill" or "doesn't enjoy a challenge," it just refers to the people who aren't on the cutting edge of the hardcore raids. A lot of players are casual players due to the amount of time they are able to spend on the game. That doesn't mean they don't want to try the harder aspects of it, just that they have less time in which to do so, meaning it takes them longer to get through things than the hardcore players. There's no reason they shouldn't be able to enjoy the game at their own pace without having it nerfed into oblivion before they can ever get to it.

I think the most entitled ones are the players who demand that content be nerfed so that everyone can clear it easily. Not everything is meant for everyone, and there's nothing wrong with having some content that's restricted to the people who are willing to put in the time and effort to obtain it. Personally, I'm not into fishing or the sightseeing log and the whole process of getting artisan's stuff/lucis seems horribly tedious and frustrating, so I'm not really putting much effort into those. I'm not about to demand they be made easier to complete so I can finish them; I recognize that there are lots of people who enjoy them the way they are. I'm not one of those people, and that's fine. People need to stop thinking they're entitled to everything just for playing the game.

In my FC are 3 statics that are still practising through FCoB. You can believe me or not. But they are getting more and more in panic mode, because its getting unlikely, that they will finish it before the nerfs are coming.
